Former Ole Miss, Seattle WR DK Metcalf signs blockbuster deal with Steelers

OXFORD, Miss. — Former Ole Miss wide receiver and now-former Seahawk DK Metcalf is being traded from Seattle to the Pittsburgh Steelers, as first reported by Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. Metcalf requested the trade.

He becomes one of the highest-paid receivers in the NFL with a contract through 2029 for $150 million. Metcalf had one year and $18 million remaining on his old deal with the Seahawks. Now, he will get a 4-year, $132 million extension — $33 million per year — totaling the $150 million.

Metcalf is now just one of six receivers in the NFL who have deals averaging more than $30 million per year. DK has tallied at least 900 yards in each of his six seasons in the league.

The trade will send the Steelers second-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft to Seattle in exchange for Metcalf. The two teams will also swap sixth and seventh round picks as compensation.

Metcalf join George Pickens as the Steelers’ franchise’s star duo at receiver, though it remains to be seen who will be throwing them passes next season. It’s worth noting that he spent the first three years of his career playing with Pittsburgh’s current QB Russell Wilson. The Steelers also have Justin Fields on the roster and the two will likely be duking it out for the starting role.

SteelersWire.com writes of the trade today:

This move should motivate (quarterback) Justin Fields to re-sign with the Steelers and if he doesn’t, Pittsburgh now has a tandem of receivers in Metcalf and George Pickens who should be a great draw if the Steelers decide to swing big for Sam Darnold.

Metcalf was a second-round pick out of Ole Miss in 2019. He recorded 66 catches for 992 yards and five TDs in 2024. For his professional career, the Oxford, Miss. native has logged 438 receptions for 6,324 yards and 48 touchdowns.
