Quick Hits: Ole Miss Defeats Eastern Washington, 75-64

OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss men’s basketball team defeated the Eastern Washington Eagles, 75-64, on Friday night inside the SJB Pavilion.

Ole Miss (2-0, 0-0 SEC) was led in scoring by Allen Flanigan with 29 points. Flanigan set a new career high in points that was previously set at 24 against South Carolina in 2021.

A total of two Rebels got into double figures as Matthew Murrell added 12 points. Rashaud Marshall finished with nine points, while Jaemyn Brakefield added eight, Jaylen Murray scored seven, TJ Caldwell added six, while Jamarion Sharp and Austin Nunez added two apiece.

Eastern Washington (0-2) had a tough time against the Rebels defense finding the range from behind the arc as they started 0-for-6 before knocking down their first three. The Eagles finished the half 2-for-10.

The Eagles were led in scoring by Cedric Coward with 16 points. Three other teammates joined him in double figures Jake Kyman (10), Casey Jones (10) and Dane Erikstrup (12).

Eastern Washington took the lead twice in the opening half by no greater margin than two points at 30-28. Ole Miss quickly answered back with a three by Caldwell.

In the first half, the Rebels shot 41 percent from the floor, 33.3 percent from beyond the arc and 83.3 from the free throw line.

Ole Miss took a 34-32 advantage into halftime.

In the second half, Ole Miss and Eastern Washington traded buckets and the lead. At the 11:14 mark, Ole Miss opened up the game.

For Flanigan, 18-of-his-27 points came in the second half against the Eagles.
