Most Impactful Rebels for 2019: No. 29 Luke Logan

OXFORD, Miss. — As we count down the days until the Ole Miss season opener against Memphis in the Liberty Bowl, we are releasing who we think the Top 50 Most Impactful Players will be for the Rebels this season. This series is a way for Ole Miss fans to learn more about players to keep an eye on this fall.

With 29 days before kickoff, coming in at No. 29…

Luke Logan

Kicker Luke Logan joined the Ole Miss football team as a preferred walk-on in the class of 2016. At Presbyterian Christian High School (Hattiesburg, Miss.), Logan connected on a 56-yard field goal attempt and also recorded touchbacks on 58 of the 65 kickoffs during his career.

The 5-foot-11, 177-pound Logan was redshirted when he first arrived on campus. During his redshirt freshman season in 2017, he appeared in all twelve games as the Rebels’ kickoff specialist and tallied 25 touchbacks on 76 kickoff attempts for an average of 61.2 yards. He made his first collegiate field goal when he went 2-for-2 from 25 and 22 yards out.

As a redshirt sophomore last season, Logan excelled as his role changed to kicking field goals. He finished third in the SEC and 10th nationally in scoring per game with 9.3 points. He notched the third-most points scored by a kicker in Ole Miss history with 111 total points and finished in a tie for second in school history with 22 field goals completions in one season.

Logan’s career-long of 40 yards came against LSU, and his performance later in the season against Vanderbilt earned him SEC Special Teams Player of the Week with a career high five field goals.

His outstanding performance in 2018 has landed him on the 2019 Lou Groza Award Watch List which is awarded to the nation’s top placekicker.

Logan excels off the field, too. He’s been named to the 2016 Dean’s Fall Honor Roll, the 2017 Chancellor’s Spring Honor Roll, the 2017 SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll, the 2018 Dean’s Fall Honor Roll, the 2018 SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll, and the 2019 Athletic Director’s Spring Honor Roll.

One can never underestimate the importance of a great kicker. All Rebels likely remember Andrew Ritter’s 41-yard field goal kick in the closing seconds to knock off No. 6 LSU inside Vaught-Hemmingway Stadium in October of 2013. And there just might be a moment or two this upcoming season where a field goal is the difference between this team becoming bowl eligible or not. You can bet that Logan will be ready to kick the game-winner if his number is called.

Hotty Toddy!
