Robert Conyers named to the Rimington Trophy Watch List
Ole Miss senior offensive lineman Robert Conyers was recently named to the Rimington Trophy Award Watch List. The Rimington Trophy is given out each year to the most outstanding center in NCAA Division I-A football.
The winner of the Rimington Trophy will be selected by determining the consensus All-American center pick from three existing All-America teams: Walter Camp Foundation, Sporting News and Football Writers Association of America.
Conyers, 6-foot-5, 290-pounds, will be leaned upon to help the Rebels’ offense duplicate the school records it broke just a season ago. Ole Miss lost all five starters on the offensive line from last season but returns Conyers, Jordan Sims, Rod Taylor, Javon Patterson and Sean Rawlings, who took snaps at center during the spring despite mainly being known as a tackle.
Like Rawlings, Conyers, a Miami, Florida native, can play both center and tackle effectively and that is certainly a positive after the loss of Laremy Tunsil, who was drafted in the first round by the Miami Dolphins.
The winner of the Rimington Trophy will be announced on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017 at the Rococo Theatre in Lincoln, Nebraska. Alabama’s Ryan Kelly was last season’s Rimington Trophy winner.
