OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss has landed a commit from Cal transfer linebacker Luke Ferrelli, a key defensive piece to Pete Golding’s 2026 class. Ferrelli is the reigning ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year, coming off of a season where he tallied 91 total tackles, a sack and an interception for the Golden Bears last season.
The 6-foot-3, 230-pound linebacker is from Carlsbad, California, and a product of Carlsbad High School, where he was one of the most productive defenders in the state. During his prep career, Ferrelli amassed 132 total tackles, 8.5 sacks, six pass deflections, and two forced fumbles, establishing himself as a high-upside defensive prospect.
Ferrelli spent the past two seasons with the CalGolden Bears, and after redshirting in 2024, he emerged as a breakout performer in 2025, showcasing his instincts, physicality, and versatility at the linebacker position.
Originally committed to Clemson through the NCAA Transfer Portal, Ferrelli flipped his commitment to Ole Miss in the final hours before the portal closed.
Ole Miss LB room
Ole Miss enters the 2026 season with a linebacker group that looks markedly different from a year ago, and Ferrelli is expected to be part of that new group. The Rebels addressed the position early through the transfer portal by bringing in former Baylor linebacker Keaton Thomas, while several familiar names moved on. TJ Dottery departed for LSU, Andrew Jones and Tahj Chambers exhausted their eligibility, and Jaden Yates continued his career at Houston. At the same time, the staff is anticipating an expanded role for freshman Jarcoby Hopson, who spent the 2025 season developing and is now positioned to see significant action next fall.
Ole Miss has continued to bolster its defensive unit, and with Pete Golding and his staff adding Ferrelli to the roster, the Rebels have landed another impactful defensive piece. Ferrelli’s skillset and trajectory suggest a bright future within the Landshark defense.
