OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss defense added a key player to the roster this evening through the commitment of Tah’j Butler, a linebacker coming in from Georgia Tech.

The Louisiana native began finding success dating back to his high school days in the New Orleans Catholic League, where he was deemed the league’s defensive MVP and a first-team all-league player his senior year. The three-star committed to Georgia Tech, where he’s been since 2024.

During his first year, Butler played in every game while making one start against Notre Dame. He totaled 25 tackles on the year with 4.5 tackles for loss and a quarterback hurry.

Going into 2025 with another year of experience under his belt, Butler progressed not only as a run defender but also in pass coverage. He recorded three pass deflections on the year along with an interception in the Yellow Jackets’ heated rivalry game against the Georgia Bulldogs. Additionally, he made 34 total tackles on the year, with 18 of them listed as solo tackles.

Following the departure of TJ Dottery and Princewill Umanmielen, Butler’s 6-foot-1, 230-pound frame will be put to use as soon as he gets to campus in Oxford with two years of eligibility.
