Pete Golding Cancels Introductory Press Conference, Shifts Spotlight Back to Ole Miss Players
OXFORD, Miss.– New Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding is wasting no time making it clear where his priorities lie. Less than 24 hours after being promoted to lead the Rebels, Golding has canceled his scheduled introductory press conference, opting instead to redirect attention back to his team as it awaits its postseason fate.
Ole Miss announced the schedule change Monday.
Golding released the following statement explaining his decision:
“After reconsidering tomorrow’s activities, I have decided to shift the focus back to where it belongs — the team. Our players have not received the notoriety they deserve for their remarkable accomplishments this season. They have given their all to Ole Miss, and I want to see the spotlight placed on them and the mission in front of us. This time is not about my start as head coach. It is about finishing this season’s story with a playoff run, and we look forward to discussing the next step in that journey following Sunday’s selection announcement.”

The move underscores Golding’s immediate commitment to stabilizing the program in the wake of Lane Kiffin’s abrupt departure to LSU. Ole Miss sits at 11–1, fresh off a third-straight Egg Bowl victory, and is positioned to secure its first-ever bid to the expanded College Football Playoff.
On Tuesday night, Ole Miss came in at No. 6 in the final regular-season College Football Playoff rankings.
For now, Golding is making one message clear: the Rebels’ season isn’t finished, and neither is their pursuit of history.
