Kewan Lacy ready to ‘bring the energy and juice:’ Ole Miss RB locked in for SEC showdown at Georgia

Ole Miss running back Kewan Lacy will no doubt be a key part of the game plan today in Athens when the No. 5 Rebels take on the No. 9 Georgia Bulldogs. He is averaging 98 rushing yards per game, second-most among SEC running backs.

Ole Miss will need Lacy to have a solid performance against a Georgia defense that only gives up an average of 91.7 yards per game rushing.
The sophomore sounds ready for the challenge as he looks to help the Ole Miss offense in its quest for a key road win over Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs.
Earlier this week, the Missouri transfer back talked about what he has learned this season, where his own personal game stands at this point, and what his thoughts are on today’s Georgia game.
“I feel like I just bring energy and juice to the team. I try to bring everybody along with me and just give everybody energy.”

They’ll need every bit of that energy as Georgia is tough to beat at home. Defensively, this will be toughest unit the Rebels have faced so far and possibly the toughest of the season. The Bulldogs are allowing just 17 points per game overall, with a stingy 13 points per game allowed at home.
As for Lacy, he believes in the Rebels’ offense and his role within it.
“It emphasizes my strength by having a lot of weapons around me. We can get to the perimeter, we can get inside the tackle box. I feel like there are just so many ways we can use everybody in the offense and it all comes together,” he explained.
Lacy offered high praise earlier this week for running backs coach Kevin Smith and the rest of the Ole Miss backs.
“I feel like I have developed great. I’m still learning, still have a lot to learn, but I feel like Coach Smith and the other running backs, they just help me out so much. Just by giving me little nuggets and different parts of my game I can improve.”

Lacy is also confident in his quarterback, Trinidad Chambliss, and sees the continued development of the talented signal caller.
“I’ve seen Trinidad evolve in the playbook and just learning how to operate with all the new players on the offense,” Lacy said earlier this week.
“Just coming out there, studying and just all the overtime. I just see him operating at another level now.”

Lacy has been praised for his pass blocking this season, something Ole Miss backs struggled with last year.

“I feel like that’s a big part of my game, just being physical in general. I feel like I just want to go out there and help the team in any way. Whether it’s pass blocking or running the ball, catching. I feel like pass blocking is just as important as running the ball.”

Facing Georgia
Lacy was asked about his mindset for the game against the Bulldogs, who have one of the best defenses in the game.
“Feeling great about the preparation and the game, I feel like I just need to go out there and do my job. So, whatever comes with it comes with it,” said Lacy.
“Just the physicality of the game. I feel like it’s going to be a real chippy game. So, just coming out there with the right mindset and being physical all four quarters.”
Lacy on what Ole Miss needs to do against Georgia
When asked about how he is preparing for the big environment and staying locked in for the huge SEC matchup, Lacy kept it very simple.
“My preparation. Knowing what I have to do, knowing my job, so when I go out there, I don’t have to hear the outside noise,” Lacy commented. “I know what I need to do and know what needs to be done.”
