Hard-Fought in Athens: Game Notes from Ole Miss’ 43–35 Loss to Georgia

OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss went to Athens Saturday to take on Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs in a top-10 SEC showdown. Although Lane Kiffin’s Rebels were ahead going into the fourth quarter, they were unable to stop the Bulldogs and ultimately fell on the road, 43-35.

Here are notes from the game courtesy of Ole Miss Athletics. 

SERIES INFORMATION
• This was the 49th meeting all-time between Ole Miss and Georgia since 1940.
• Georgia’s lead in the series is now 34-14-1 on the field, including a 20-4-1 mark in Athens.
• This was the seventh ranked meeting all-time between the Rebels and Bulldogs, and only the second with both teams in the national top-10 … Georgia leads ranked matchups 5-2 and top-10 meetings 2-0.

CAPTAINS
• TJ Dottery (LB), Kam Franklin (DE), Patrick Kutas (OL)

STARTERS
• OL Jayden Williams is Ole Miss’ active career leader in starts, making his 26th today at right tackle.
• LB TJ Dottery and LT Diego Pounds made their 16th consecutive starts at Ole Miss, which leads all active Rebels.

GENERAL NOTES
• Today’s attendance was 93,033, the biggest crowd Ole Miss has seen this season.

OFFENSIVE NOTES
• Ole Miss’s five consecutive touchdown drives against Georgia are the most consecutive touchdowns the Ole Miss offense has had against an opponent this season.
• QB Trinidad Chambliss ended 19-of-36 passing for 263 yards and one TD, and on the ground he led Ole Miss with 42 yards and two scores … This was Chambliss’ second multi-rushing TD game of the season.
• RB Kewan Lacy had 31 yards and two scores on 12 attempts … Lacy now has 10 rushing touchdowns this season, making him the 18th rusher in Ole Miss history to have at least 10 in a season.
• WR De’Zhaun Stribling had his best day as a Rebel with 96 yards on three receptions, including a 75-yard TD pass – a career-long for Chambliss.
• TE Dae’Quan Wright moved into sixth all-time at Ole Miss in career receiving yards among tight ends, currently sitting at 787 … Wright had three catches for 34 yards.

DEFENSIVE NOTES
• LB Suntarine Perkins racked up a season-high 10 tackles and forced a fumble for the first time in his career … Perkins also assisted on a tackle for loss.
• DT Zxavian Harris had one solo sack, his third of the season that gives him 5.5 for his career.
• S Wydett Williams Jr. had an Ole Miss career-high eight tackles, pushing him beyond the 200-mark for his career.

SPECIAL TEAMS NOTES
• P Oscar Bird booted a career-long 64-yarder late in the fourth quarter, his first beyond the 60-yard threshold … Bird punted twice for 106 yards, but Ole Miss did not punt at all until 12:37 left in the game.
• K Lucas Carneiro sent all six of his kickoffs into the endzone for touchbacks.
