Ole Miss Baseball Adds LHP Grant Richardson as First Transfer of 2025 Offseason

OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss baseball secured its first transfer portal addition of the 2025 offseason with the commitment of junior left-handed pitcher Grant Richardson from Grand Canyon University.

Richardson, a 6‑foot‑3, 220‑pound southpaw out of Horizon High School in Arizona, arrived in Oxford late last week for a visit and quickly reached an agreement with the Rebels. He arrives at a program coming off a 40‑win season and joins what will soon be a staff in their second year under pitching coach Joel Mangrum

The lefty missed all of the 2025 season for the Antelopes after undergoing Tommy John surgery last summer but is expected to be at full-force for the Rebels in 2026.

At Grand Canyon, Richardson dominated as both a reliever and starter during his two healthy seasons with the program. After beginning his 2024 sophomore season in long relief, he eventually moved into the starting rotation, posting a 5‑1 record with a 3.73 ERA and 70 strikeouts through 50.2 innings of work. That strikeout rate — 12.43 per nine innings — currently ranks first in program history at GCU for pitchers with at least 50 innings posted.

Richardson’s standout performances include a six‑inning, one‑earned‑run effort that secured Grand Canyon’s first Division I NCAA Tournament win over No. 13 national seed Arizona in 2024. He also earned WAC Pitcher of the Week honors in late April after notching 10 strikeouts in a one‑hit shutout performance against Seattle University.

As a freshman in 2023, the lefty made 14 appearances out of the bullpen and finished the season with a 29-9 strikeout to walk ratio through 22 innings.

According to a brief scouting report from Perfect Game Four Corners in 2024, Richardson has a more than ideal build on the mound and is longer out the glove with his “whippy” arm release. The southpaw loves to use the fastball and has a power-slider in his back pocket. His fastball sat between 92-94 mph in 2024 before the injury and topped out at 96. His slider sits in the mid-to upper 80s and generates a high chase rate.

The move from the Rebels to secure Richardson early in transfer season highlights the program’s focus on building veteran depth in the pitching staff. By adding a high‑upside lefty with both starting and relief experience, head coach Mike Bianco enhances the rotation and bullpen flexibility for Ole Miss looking forward to 2026.
