Ole Miss (37-17, 11-13 SEC) will take on No. 3 seed Grand Canyon in the Rebels’ first game of the tourney, with first pitch set for 9 p.m. CT Friday.
The Rebels will face Grand Canyon for just the second time, defeating the Lopes, 9-5, in the 2022 Los Angeles Regional held at UCLA.
This marks head coach Jamie Trachsel’s fifth consecutive tournament bid, doing so in each year throughout her tenure at Ole Miss. The Rebs will be looking for their first NCAA Super Regional Appearance since 2019.
Ole Miss, although familiar to post season play, sees this bid a little differently than in previous years, as they were predicted to finish second-to-last in the SEC Preseason Coaches Poll, only above South Carolina.
Ole Miss has earned several impressive victories this season, including a win over No. 1 Tennessee, a series win over No. 10 Arkansas, and two victories over No. 6/4 Florida, with the latter coming in extra innings in the SEC Tournament.
Led by Jaden Pone who was selected to both the First Team All-SEC team and to the All-Defensive team, the Rebels advanced to the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament, defeating Missouri and Florida along the way. Ole Miss would eventually fall to third-seeded Texas 7-6 in heartbreaking fashion on Thursday.
Joining Ole Miss and Grand Canyon in the Tucson Regional will be Arizona, and Santa Clara. The Rebels seek their first NCAA Super Regional appearance since 2019.
