De’Zhaun Stribling credits Lane Kiffin’s offense for making Ole Miss a destination for portal receivers

OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss offense will be looked at through an entirely new lens this fall, as the Rebels will have a new starting quarterback, several incoming offensive linemen, and a total of five transfer portal wide receivers.

One of those receivers, De’Zhaun Stribling, discussed his decision to come to Ole Miss from Oklahoma State, appealing to Lane Kiffin’s explosive offense and ability to score at will.

I wanted to go somewhere where I could catch the ball, score touchdowns, and win games. That was kind of the whole process going into it. You have a long history here of great receivers, winning a lot of games, and putting up a lot of points. I just wanted to be a part of something like that.

– Stribling on committing to Ole Miss

To his point, the Rebels averaged over 500 yards per game last year, with 350 of those occurring in the passing game. Ole Miss finished ranked second in both yards per game and passing yards per game, according to ESPN.

More specifically, the Rebels’ four primary receivers each averaged over 15 yards per catch and caught for over 500 passing yards on the season. Despite being limited due to injury, Tre Harris’ ability to be successful stuck out to Stribling as a recruit.

You could look at everybody. A significant name would be Tre Harris. You see what he did last year in the games that he played… not even just him, but the three receivers that they had, the ball was getting thrown around, lots of plays were being made, and a lot of points were scored.”

– Stribling on last year’s receiving corps

In his personal production last fall, Stribling caught 52 passes for 882 yards and seven touchdowns with the Cowboys.

The 6-foot-2 Hawaii native will look to increase his performance level and establish strong relationships with his new teammates, one of whom is quarterback Austin Simmons. During his presser, Stribling spoke on what he’s learned about Simmons up to this point.

He’s a goofy kid, he likes to laugh and have fun. It’s all about new experiences and spending quality time. Me and him go out to eat once a week and have a recap of what our weeks were like and how the day was, so having a quarterback but also a friend who cares about your day is very good.”
