Texas transfer linebacker Derion Gullette set to visit Ole Miss
OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss finds itself, yet again, as a visiting spot for a talented transfer portal player. Texas transfer linebacker Derion Gullette is set to visit Lane Kiffin and the Rebels Wednesday.
We visited with Gullette recently and asked what he’s most looking forward to on his trip to Oxford. “Just seeing the university and how it will be a good fit,” he explained.
The six-foot-3, 227-pounder has a history of making plays on both sides of the ball. The former four-star prospect out of Teague (Texas) High School missed his senior season due to injury, but during his junior campaign he turned many heads.
He notched 125 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, 2 interceptions, 3 fumble recoveries, 2 forced fumbles and four passes defended for Teague. Offensively, Gullette caught 64 passes for 1,458 yards and 14 touchdowns. He rushed 13 times for 74 yards and four touchdowns.
In the class of 2023, Gullette was ranked as the No. 36 EDGE in the nation and the No. 63 overall prospect in the state of Texas. He chose the Horns over A&M and Ohio State and many others.
He redshirted his true freshman season with the Longhorns and then appeared in five games in the 2024 season, recording two tackles.
He commented on what stands out the most about the way the Rebels have been recruiting him. “Just how consistent they are,” he said.
Gullette has an ability to fight off the blocks and is a tackling machine. He is very physical and exceptionally strong and is more of a traditional linebacker with great closing speed.
He has already taken a visit to Starkville.
We wanted to know what Gullette is most looking for in his next home. “An opportunity to play and be taken care of,” he said. “Just have my back like I have yours.”
We also asked Gullette what is his ‘x-factor’ skill he could bring to a team like Ole Miss.
“Imagine a pit bull bite locked onto something, and that’s what I bring — relentless violence and effort.
Gullette will have three years of eligibility remaining, and we will keep you updated with more on his recruiting journey.
