Based on the results of Clemson’s last-second win over SMU, there are many who think SMU will now make the playoffs. Why does that matter? Well, if SMU bumps Alabama and the Tide is left out of the top 12, that would push Bama down into likely the best-remaining bowl game outside of the playoffs. And that would, in essence, push the Rebels down, as well.
The Crimson Tide would most likely get a berth in the Citrus Bowl in Orlando if they’re not in the Top 12. The latest projections indicate the Rebels could then expect to be playing in Liberty, Music City, ReliaQuest, Texas or Las Vegas bowls.
We took a look at the latest projections from the various media outlets and analysts (These are projections, only, and we will let you know as soon as the official list is out):
The Sporting News: Dec. 31 – ReliaQuest Bowl in Tampa, Fla. — Ole Miss vs. Minnesota
CBS Sports: Dec. 31 Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla. — Ole Miss vs. Illinois
247Sports: Dec. 27 Las Vegas Bowl in Las Vegas, Nev. — Ole Miss vs. USC
ESPN: Dec. 30 Music City Bowl in Nashville, Tenn. — Ole Miss vs. Iowa
