Series Snapshot: Ole Miss at Arkansas
OXFORD, Miss. – (Release) The No. 18 Ole Miss football team resumes one of its most-played rivalries this week when it travels to Fayetteville to take on SEC rival Arkansas.
Here’s a look at the long series history between the Rebels and Razorbacks, including an even split of four games in the Lane Kiffin era.
Series Snapshot
Ole Miss and Arkansas will meet for the 71st time this weekend, a series that dates back to 1908. Arkansas leads the all-time series 37-32-1 on the field. It will be tied with Alabama for the fourth-most-played rivalry in program history behind Mississippi State, LSU and Vanderbilt. Ole Miss and Arkansas have split four games in the Lane Kiffin era with the home team winning each time.
Series in Fayetteville
Arkansas has dominated the series in Fayetteville to the tune of 13-2 all-time. Ole Miss’ last road victory against Arkansas came in Little Rock in 2018, a 37-33 victory, wherein Jordan Ta’amu amassed 528 yards of total offense to lead a 37-33 comeback victory. The Rebels last won in Fayetteville in 2008, but even that win nearly slipped away as the Hogs recovered an onside kick trailing by two with a minute to go, but the Rebel defense clamped down for a 23-21 victory. Their only other win in Fayetteville came in 2000 on the heels of a 131-yard and two-touchdown performance by Deuce McAllister.
Last Meeting
Last year’s meeting in Oxford was a back-and-forth affair. Arkansas scored the game’s first points before the Rebels responded with 17 unanswered to take a 17-7 lead into the locker room. The Hogs responded with a 13 straight points of their own and led 20-17 with eight minutes to go in the game. A Ulysses Bentley IV touchdown put Ole Miss on top, then a sack by Ashanti Cistrunk and Isaac Ukwu set up a Caden Davis field goal for insurance. Finally, John Saunders Jr. picked off KJ Jefferson in the waning minutes to seal the 27-20 victory.
Last Meeting in Fayetteville
Right from the start, not much went right for Ole Miss in its last trip to Arkansas. Jaxson Dart fumbled on the opening drive, then had a touchdown pass to Dayton Wade nullified due to a penalty, helping Arkansas take a 14-0 lead. Ole Miss also suffered from a missed field goal and an interception as the Razorbacks took a commanding 35-6 lead into halftime. The Rebels added to the scoreboard three late touchdowns but couldn’t complete the comeback in a 42-27 defeat.
