Twenty-Two Names to Know for the Ole Miss Season: No. 2 Tre Harris

OXFORD, Miss. – As we lead up to week one in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium for the kickoff of Ole Miss football’s 2024 season, The Rebel Walk team is highlighting one player each day for our ‘Ole Miss 22’ rankings. We’ll break down who they are, how they got here, and what we expect from each.

Today, we take a look at the No. 2 player on the list, wide receiver, Tre Harris.

Tre Harris took the college football world by storm last season and looks to take his abilities to a higher level heading into his second year with the Rebs.

How did Harris arrive at Ole Miss?

The talented Tre played quarterback at Comeaux High School in Lafayette, Louisiana, and as a three-star was recruited by Louisiana Tech, where he officially began his college career in 2020. Harris began playing wide receiver once he arrived on campus, and throughout his career, he blossomed into a physical, fast, and dangerous player down the field.

Following his profound success at Louisiana Tech, he entered the transfer portal with two years of eligibility when Lane Kiffin offered the stud a wide receiver spot in the portal. According to Harris, he was between Ole Miss and Oklahoma and decided he was a better fit in Kiffin’s offense, led by quarterback Jaxson Dart.

During his first year in red and blue, Harris became a dominant force for Kiffin, proving to be one of the most effective players in the SEC. Heading into the “Last Dance” season, Tre will look to elevate his game and potentially become a first-round pick in next year’s NFL Draft.

Career Outlook

Harris is a player who has shown a ridiculous amount of growth throughout his career, dating back to his time at Louisiana Tech when he was a freshman. During his first year in 2020, he finished with one reception for 20 yards and no touchdowns. As a sophomore, however, his role and development started to take off in a large fashion. Harris collected 572 receiving yards on 40 receptions while scoring four touchdowns.

Even after an impressive sophomore season, the following year Tre managed to notch 65 receptions and 20 touchdowns on a career high of 935 receiving yards. When he entered the transfer portal and committed to the Rebs heading into his next season, many fans around the country wondered if he be able to find success in the SEC?

The answer is a resounding, YES!

Looking back a year later, that question would be absurd to ask after Harris became the No. 1 wide receiver for Ole Miss, a second-team All SEC selection who caught 47 passes for 851 yards and eight touchdowns last season. Tre’s route-running talent paired with his ability to win one-on-one matchups makes him one of the most dangerous receivers in the country heading into this fall.

Fall camp and the 2024 season

According to Lane Kiffin, Harris is the most improved player on the field for Ole Miss, coming off of a spectacular debut season in the SEC. Unlike last season, Harris will be a part of a passing attack that contains a better offensive line, more talented skill players, and an abundance of experience.

If I had to predict, I would say that Harris will finish the year with over 1,000 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns.

There should be no question that opposing defenses will need to double-team Tre for as long as possible to prevent him from torching the secondaries of their defense. With Ole Miss taking on Furman this Saturday, be sure to lookout for No. 9 in the end zone.

Hotty Toddy!
