Ole Miss’ Suntarine Perkins Named No. 4 Breakout Player in the Nation by ESPN
OXFORD, Miss. – Heading into the 2024–2025 Ole Miss football season, it’s no secret that Pete Golding has assembled an elite defense with some of the best talent across the country. A considerable piece to the defensive puzzle is none other than true sophomore Suntarine Perkins, who was named fourth on ESPN’s “Breakout Player” list.

Despite being listed as a linebacker, Perkins lined up as an edge rusher during a number of games last season and finished his season with 38 total tackles, 3.5 sacks, and a pass deflection.
His speed, length, and 6-foot-3 frame have given Perkins an incredible amount of potential, which is being recognized on a national scale. Here is what ESPN had to say about the stud in their article:
“With Lane Kiffin at the helm, there is always plenty of buzz surrounding his team’s offense, but Perkins is a talent on the defensive end ready for his close-up. In his freshman campaign, Perkins started only two games but finished with 38 total tackles (5.5 of those for loss) and 3.5 sacks. It was the ideal debut season for a player who will be crucial to the Rebels’ defense this season.”

This kind of hype is no surprise for a player like Perkins, who came out of high school ranked as a five-star on every major recruiting platform. In his debut as a Rebel, with all of the pressure on his shoulders, the Raleigh native collected nine total tackles and a sack against Mercer.
