OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss shortstop Luke Hill is not only one of the best players in the country on the field, but off the field Hill is equally impressive.

Luke has partnered with Folds of Honor, a nonprofit organization that provides educational scholarships to spouses and children of military members who have fallen amid their service. Scholarships are also awarded to disabled military members.

Luke has this message on his website about what the military and Folds of Honor means to him.

“My name is Luke Hill and I play baseball for Ole Miss (Go Rebels!). I have been blessed to play the game I love so much from a very young age. The game of baseball has taught me so much more about life than the game itself. Baseball has been our nation’s favorite pastime and is uniquely American. Also in our hearts and minds is our country’s freedom- it is the cornerstone that makes our nation the greatest in the world.

“The United States military is the main reason these freedoms are present. My father Rick served in the Marine Corp, my great grandfather Ralph served in the Army, my great grandfather Ken and great uncle Kent served in the Navy, my great great uncle Amos served in the Air Force and many other relatives served in these branches as well. The military has been very instrumental in helping shape my values and grow to become the man I am today.

“Without the commitment and sacrifice of many American service members our liberties may be in jeopardy. So many present and past military members have given all so that we can enjoy these basic rights and privileges. Let’s don’t take them for granted! Please join me in supporting our nations military and repay some of the tremendous debt for what they endured. Let’s all contribute to ensure that generations to come are able to live their dream as I have lived mine.”

In total, since 2007 when the Folds of Honor was created, over 51,000 educational scholarships have been awarded. The only way these scholarships have been created and dispersed is through the money donated by citizens across the country.

For Hill, he will be using his performances on the baseball diamond to determine how much money will be donated to the Folds of Honor:

  • $13 per hit (representing the 13 folds on the American flag)
  • $250 per Home Run
  • $500 for 7th Home Run
  • $1,000 for Grand Slam

Looking at Hill’s 2023 stats at Arizona State, the shortstop would have donated over $2,000 to Folds of Honor. Luke finished with six home runs last season, likely resulting in the $500 incentive for his seventh homer in ’24.

In both his performances on and off the field, Luke Hill will be a massive contributor to Ole Miss Baseball this spring. The Rebels open their season on February 16 in Honolulu as they have a four-game series against the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors.
