Ole Miss Hockey Road Recap
OXFORD, Miss. — The Ole Miss hockey team went 1-2 on its road trip this past weekend. The Ice Rebs dropped the first two games to the University of Alabama DI, 5-2 and 7-1. They won the third game over Alabama DIII, 5-4.
The Frozen Tide came out strong in the first period of game one; they went into the intermission up 2-0, but the Rebs struck for back-to-back goals early in the second to tie it up.
The tie was short-lived, however, as Alabama scored three goals in the second to win it.
Bama dominated game two. They scored three goals in the first and second periods and added one in the third. The Rebs scored their lone goal in the second.
On Sunday afternoon, the Rebels played their third straight day of hockey. They scored one goal in the first and four in the third to defeat the Frozen Tide.
Going into the third, the Rebs were down 2-1. With less than six minutes to go in the period, the Rebs led 5-2, but the Tide stormed back to get within one. Ole Miss held them in the last three minutes to secure the win.
In the third period, there were a combined 43 minutes of penalties, 20 of which were for fighting or punching.
Ole Miss’ Mike O’Malley scored two goals and one assist for three points. Doyle Coughlin had three assists. Freshman Aidan Kane scored his first goal as well.
For the weekend, O’Malley had four goals and two assists.
The next series for the Rebs comes this weekend against the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
