Honoring The Captain: Tim Elko Statue Unveiled at Swayze

OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss baseball has unveiled the statue of former Rebel first baseman and 2022 National Champion Tim Elko in its temporary home on the third base side of Swayze Field.

It was unveiled at Thursday’s Bullpen Club meeting.

The statue is currently alongside the wall with the pictures of the 2022 National Championships and sits past the concession stand. It will be relocated when the upcoming Swayze Field expansion is completed. The construction on the new premium seats down the third base line will begin after the 2024 season and will include 500 premium seats and the “All-American” plaza with Elko’s statue featured.

Elko, a 10th-round pick of the White Sox in 2022, led the team in home runs (24), RBI (75) and slugging percentage (.642) in his senior season, while leading the Rebels to their first World Series Championship in school history. For his Ole Miss career, the Captain posted a batting average of .294 with a .985 OPS. His 46 career home runs rank second all-time in program history. His 159 RBIs rank eighth.

Elko shared his admiration for being a part of this honor on Twitter on Thursday.

“So incredibly blessed to be a part of such an amazing university and a special team, thank you to all,” Elko said.

From playing with a torn ACL, to hitting grand slams in the 2021 Oxford Regional, to returning for his senior year and coining his “Don’t let the Rebs get hot” signature phrase, to finally hoisting the National Championship Trophy, the Captain has made his mark on Ole Miss baseball. Now that mark will be visible in the form of a statue for all to see for the ages. Congratulations to Tim!

Ole Miss returns to the diamond on Friday afternoon as the Rebels play host to High Point.
