Preview: Ole Miss Women’s Golf Set to Start Spring Season
OXFORD, Miss. — After the fall season came to its end, the Ole Miss women’s golf team begins the spring in 9th place in the nation on the Clippd Women’s Collegiate Team Rankings scoreboard with a 54-6-0 win-loss-tie record after the four fall events. The team finished the fall season with three top-2 finishes as well as four top-5 finishes.
Two Lady Rebels have earned top 100 Individual Rankings in the Clippd scoreboard with Caitlyn Macnab sitting at No. 11 and Justine Fournand at the No. 70 slot.
With such high placements individually as well as a team, we have high hopes for the women’s team this upcoming spring season as we look forward to new and challenging tournaments.
Starting the season in Puerto Rico and Florida
The Rebels will be starting the season at the Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico from February 4th through 6th. Ole Miss did not play in the Puerto Rico Classic last season, so we expect good results from the team in the season-opening tournament.
Vanderbilt, one of the Puerto Rico Classic competitors, currently holds 21st place on the scoreboard, falling behind Ole Miss by 20.96 average points. Vanderbilt has played five events with a 34-7-0 win-loss-tie record.
The Rebels team will then go to Melbourne, Florida to compete in the Moon Golf Invitational hosted by the Louisville Cardinals from February 18th through 20th. For their first time in this tournament, the Ole Miss women’s team has a great opportunity to move up on the scoreboard.
The Cardinals currently hold 47th place, behind Ole Miss by 39.75 average points, with a 35-34-1 win-loss-tie record after finishing six events. With the Cardinals competing in this tournament, we expect an eventful tournament.
Returning this year, the Ole Miss women’s team will head to Gainesville, Florida to the Gators International on March 2nd and 3rd. Last year, the Rebels came in fourth place after playing their best through rough weather conditions.
This competition has previously brought out the best in many of our women players. It has moved our players up the individual scoreboard creating Ole Miss women’s golf history with the most top-5 finishes in a single season.
Right behind the Rebels on the scoreboard, the University of Florida comes in 10th place after four events with a 42-6-0 record. They fall behind Ole Miss by only 4.82 average points. With these close scores, we expect to see an entertaining and successful tournament this season.
The Ole Miss women’s team has a hopeful lineup of tournaments this season, leaving room for scoreboard improvement as a team as well as individually.
