Ole Miss Head Coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin Looks Ahead at the Rebels’ Two Big Games This Week
OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss women’s basketball head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin met with the media on Tuesday and discussed the opponents the Rebels will face this week.
Ole Miss is coming off a 69-59 victory over the Georgia Bulldogs on the road in Athens Sunday. The team now turns its attention to what is next.
“We have two huge games on the docket with Florida on Thursday and Tennessee on Sunday,” McPhee-McCuin said.
“Right now, the SEC is in three tiers: teams with one loss, teams with two losses (us and Vandy), and then we have a group with three losses and below.“
Coach Yo describing the SEC
Coach Yo added that the SEC is going to be a long game this season.
“For us last year we didn’t know how we were going to finish until the buzzer sounded, literally,” McPhee-McCuin said. “I think this year will be kinda similar and just as competitive.”
This week the Rebels play at home inside the SJB Pavilion, and Coach Yo wants fans to come out.
“I want to invite people to come out for the games on Thursday and Sunday. They are huge, huge games for us as far as standings are concerned. We would love to have a home-court advantage starting with Florida that has a higher NET than us. Then, Tennessee is right behind us in the NET. Two both important games.“
Coach Yo on the importance of the next two home games
Coach Yo also added that the defensive play against Georgia, Auburn and Alabama was really good in all three of those games.
“They all resulted in wins,” McPhee-McCuin said. “When we guard at a high level, I feel confident in everything else that will happen. Because our defense is the engine to our offense. Thursday and Sunday we have to guard and the offense will take care of itself,” she said.
