Ole Miss slugger Kemp Alderman selected by the Marlins in the 2nd round of the 2023 MLB Draft

OXFORD, Miss. – Kemp Alderman was drafted in the second round Sunday night by the Miami Marlins with the 47th overall pick of the 2023 Major League Baseball Draft. The slot value for the 47th pick is $1,825,300. (Click here to see the slot values.)

A three-year letterman at Ole Miss, Alderman was best known for his brute strength, insane exit velocities, tape-measure home runs, and folksy personality.

This past year, Alderman routinely powered balls in the 113-118 mile per hour range and notched a 480-foot home run at Swayze Field.

His versatility showed in his final year when he started games at both corner outfield positions, catcher, DH and even pitched in two games.

During his freshman year, Alderman appeared in eight games with his big reveal to Rebel Nation coming against LSU when he led off the 9th inning of game three with a walk-off home run to complete the eight-run Ole Miss comeback.

Alderman was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll in both his freshman and sophomore years.

In the Rebels’ National Championship year in 2022, the Decatur, Mississippi native, was second on the team in doubles with 15 and tied for third in home runs with 11.

The slugger hit his first collegiate grand slam against Arizona in the finals of the Coral Gables Regional, had a .318 batting average in Omaha, and was named to the 2022 College World Series All-Tournament Team.

Alderman truly grew into himself his junior year.  He led Ole Miss in: batting average (.376), slugging percentage (.709), on-base percentage (.440), hits (80), RBIs (61), home runs (19), total bases (151), multiple hit games (28) and multiple RBI game (17).

He concluded the season with a 49-game on-base streak and a 19-game hit streak.

For his efforts in 2023, he was placed on the Second Team All-SEC team, named First Team ABCA All-South Region, Third Team ABCA/Rawlings All-American, Second Team NCBWA All-American and was a Dick Howser Trophy Semifinalist.

Alderman earned the 2023 Ferriss Trophy, awarded annually to the best college baseball player in Mississippi.

We wish Kemp good luck as he begins his journey in professional baseball, forever an Ole Miss national champion.

Hotty Toddy!
