Ole Miss’ Jacob Gonzalez, Hunter Elliott make 26-man roster for USA Collegiate National Team

Ole Miss National Champions Jacob Gonzalez and Hunter Elliott have both made the 26-man roster for the USA Collegiate National Team and will travel to the Netherlands with the team. The Rebels and their team are slated to play Japan, Italy, Cuba, the Netherlands, and Curacao July 9-13.

Elliott drew the start for the Stars on July 4, pitching two complete innings, allowing just one hit and two walks while striking out four. He was the winning pitcher for the Stars who defeated the Stripes, 6-3.

Gonzalez, in his first four games played, is 5-for-16 with two doubles and four RBI while manning the shortstop position for Rebels’ head coach Mike Bianco, the Collegiate National Team head coach, in the five-game Stars vs. Stripes series.

In his first game, Gonzalez went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk. He batted fourth for the Stars in the 4-1 win. In his second game, Gonzo went 0-for-3 with a sacrifice fly which was the only run the Stars scratched across in the 2-1 loss.

Sunday night, Gonzalez aided a Stars 7-0 win with a 3-for-5 game to go along with two RBI.

He also turned a nice double play late in Sunday’s game.

In the final game of the Stars vs. Stripes series, Gonzo hit an RBI double in the top of the fifth. In the game, he went 1-for-5 with one RBI.

Gonzalez is one of the top college players headed into next year’s MLB Draft. Many consider the shortstop from Glendora, California to be a first-round pick with his hitting being his best tool.

Stay tuned as we will keep you updated on all Ole Miss players competing for the USA CNT on The Rebel Walk website as well as on Twitter. The team will head to the Netherlands this weekend for five games against international opponents.
