The Rebel Walk Roundtable: Our Week 10 SEC Picks
The Rebels head to The Plains Saturday to face Auburn, and The World’s Largest Cocktail Party happens in Jacksonville! It’s another great weekend in SEC play!
After last week’s games, Land is still holding on to first place by one game over Jake, Hays and Ross. Here’s a look at our standings as we head into Week 10 action:
Land Teller: 52-17
Jake Evans: 51-18
Hays Dubberly: 51-18
Ross Montgomery: 51-18
Evie Van Pelt: 50-19
RW Roundtable: Our Week 10 SEC Picks
6:00 P.M. – Ole Miss (3-5, 2-3 SEC) vs #11 Auburn (6-2, 3-2 SEC)
Spread: AUB -19
O/U: 53
Jake: Honestly, I think Ole Miss matches up well with Auburn. However, Auburn is too deep for the Rebs. I think Ole Miss’ defense is going to give Bo Nix some problems today, but in the end, the Tigers’ D line is too good for the Rebs O-line. Offense might be hard to come by for the red and blue, so I see Auburn pulling away late for a win.
Evie: Auburn’s defensive front is one of the best — if not the best — in the nation. There are future NFL players all across the defensive line. They lead the SEC with 83 combined sacks and tackles for loss, averaging 10.4 per game. In the Tigers’ six wins, freshman QB Bo Nix has a 148 passer rating, but in their two losses he has mustered only an 80.6 rating. If the Rebels are able to get something going on offense, they might have a chance if they can force Bo Nix to pass the ball when the Tigers are on offense. Is it a long shot? Yes. But that’s why they play the game.
Land: Let’s just not hurt anybody.
Hays: The Ole Miss offensive line is pretty banged up along with QB John Rhys Plumlee, and Auburn’s defensive line is the best in the SEC. The Rebels have struggled at times generating a consistent offense, and I think that continues today. Auburn wins the line of scrimmage and the game.
Ross: The Rebel’s head to the plains with essentially no shot at winning this game. Auburn is simply a better team, and it will not help that the Ole Miss offense will be held back by its inferior playcalling. The Rebs will cover though, so moral victories right???
11 A.M. – UTSA (3-4) vs Texas A&M (5-3)
Spread: A&M -38
O/U: 53.5
Jake: Aggies
Evie: This one will be a blowout win that gets the Aggies bowl eligible. Not quite a bye week, but almost….
Land: Jimbo is going bowling!
Hays: W
Ross: Jimbo gets the Aggies to bowl eligibility, on his way to his typical 8 win seasons.
2:30 P.M. – #8 Georgia (6-1, 3-1 SEC) vs #6 Florida (7-1, 4-1 SEC)
Spread: UGA -6.5
O/U: 47
Jake: This game seems incredibly even to me. I think Georgia has been a bit off their game since losing to South Carolina. I see them having some offensive problems today versus Florida’s defense, and that being the difference. Florida pulls out a close win
Evie: I’m going against the odds here, but I think Mullen and Florida win this one. I expect it to be closer than the 6.5 spread, but I think the Gators pull it out in the end.
Land: I’m fascinated to see how Georgia does in its first test since losing to Carolina. If Jake Fromm brings his A game, I see the Dawgs coming out on top.
Hays: The Cocktail Party is always a wild game, and I expect the same this year. Florida’s secondary is forreal, and Dan Mullen always seems to be competitive in these types of games. I think Georgia pulls a close one out with a late touchdown in a low scoring game.
Ross: I still believe Georgia is the team to beat out of the East, and I believe they will be in Atlanta playing for the SEC Championship, so I’m taking the Dawgs.
3:00 P.M. – Mississippi State (3-5, 1-4 SEC) vs Arkansas (2-6, 0-5 SEC)
Spread: MSU -7.5
O/U: 57.5
Jake: These coaches are both in trouble and in need of a big win. I think things get messy in Fayetteville, and we see a pretty trashy football game. Chad Morris is still looking for that first SEC win, and I think Moorehead’s Bulldogs are the perfect target. Razorbacks win a close one.
Evie: This is a yawner of a game, but it could end up being the battle for the bottom of the league. Even though they are 7.5 point underdogs, I think Arkansas wins this one in Fayetteville.
Land: Two coaches coaching for their job? What do I always say? A toss-up involving State… I pick the other team…Good job, Chad!
Hays: Mississippi State has struggled all year long, and they will struggle on the road. Both programs have a lot of question marks regarding their future, and it will be interesting to see how it will shape out. However, Arkansas is absolutely awful, and Chad Morris’s seat will get that much warmer.
Ross: Chad Morris promised a win against Mississippi State in his press conference early this week. You know, why not shoot your shot coach. If Arkansas wins, Joe Moorehead will essentially be out of Starkville. Give me the Hogs
6:00 P.M. – UAB (6-1) vs Tennessee (3-5)
Spread: TENN -11.5
O/U: 47.5
Jake: Tennessee has turned a corner after a horrendous start to 2019. Vols win this one comfortably.
Evie: After a ridiculously bad start, Tennessee has somehow gotten back on track with wins over State and South Carolina. If the Vols win three of their next four, they head to a bowl. I think it starts today with a win over UAB.
Land: Is Knoxville still on fire?
Hays: UT wins and will probably make it to a bowl game.
Ross: I’m honestly surprised to see this UAB team is 6-1. Tennessee will win this game though. They are quietly getting better and better as the season goes on.
6:30 P.M. – Vanderbilt (2-5, 1-3 SEC) vs South Carolina (3-5, 2-4 SEC)
Spread: SC -15
O/U: 51.5
Jake: Vandy is too bad to make this interesting. Gamecocks
Evie: Vandy is not good and the Gamecocks looked really bad against Tennessee in the final half. But this one is in Columbia and that ought to be enough of a difference-maker. South Carolina wins.
Land: GET READY TO SET THE BARNS ON FIRE BOB but yeah give me the Gamecocks
Hays: I think South Carolina wins and covers the spread despite Vanderbilt having “momentum” after a Missouri win.
Ross: A SEC Network prime time showdown… lol. I’ll take Carolina.
