Rebels face Missouri on the road
The Rebels men’s basketball team tips off against Missouri today at 3:00 pm in an SEC match-up in Columbia. Though Ole Miss (13-7, 4-3 SEC) is 3-1 all-time against the Tigers, the Rebels have not beaten Missouri (7-12, 1-5 SEC) in Columbia.
Ole Miss comes into the game ranked No. 1 in the nation in free throw percentage (79.9 percent), with Illinois is close behind (79.6). Rebel guard Stefan Moody is shooting 90.7 percent from the line which ranks him seventh in nation and first in the SEC.
The Rebels’ last game was a 79-73 win over Mississippi State. In that game, senior guard Jarvis Summers scored 22 to give him 1,510 points for his career. He is the SEC active leader in career points, assists (452), minutes (3,480) and wins (77).
Missouri enters today’s game following two losses last week. The Tigers have dropped six conference games in a row, including last week’s 61-60 loss to Arkansas and a 69-53 defeat at the hands of Kentucky.
Missouri is averaging 62.7 points per game, which puts them in next-to-last place in the conference in scoring, one spot ahead of last place Mississippi State who averages 61.9.
Ole Miss, on the other hand, is among the leaders in the conference in scoring per game. The Rebels average 74.4 per game, behind Arkansas (81) and LSU (74.9), and right ahead of Kentucky (74.3).
Sophomore forward Johnathan Williams III leads Missouri in scoring and rebounding–averaging 12.0 points per game and 7.0 rebounds per game for the Tigers. Freshman guard Montaque Gill-Caesar is next with 10.2 points and 3.1 rebounds per game.
For the Rebels, Stefan Moody leads the team in points, averaging 15 per game, and Jarvis Summers is second with 13.9 ppg. On the boards, sophomore center Dwight Coleby leads Ole Miss with an average of 5.2 rebounds per game, while sophomore forward Sebastian Saiz is second with an average of 5.0 per game.
