Tristan Bissetta Powers Ole Miss Baseball Past Austin Peay in Midweek Victory

OXFORD, Miss. — The Ole Miss Rebels put themselves back in the win column as they took down the Austin Peay Governors, 9-5, on Tuesday inside Swayze Field.

The Recap

Ole Miss took no time putting runs on the board as Hayden Federico drew a leadoff walk, to then be sent home just two pitches later when Tristan Bissetta smacked a two-run homer for his tenth of the season. The Rebels continued to pose a threat in the first, but ended up stranding two runners in scoring position to end the first frame, leading 2-0.

Ole Miss’ offensive attack continued in the second, where they added on five more runs, pushing their lead to 7-0 with just three hits.

The scoring began with a Judd Utermark bases-loaded walk, followed by a bases-clearing double from Collin Reuter, who eventually capped off the scoring by advancing home on a wild pitch.

However, the Governors stayed aggressive at the plate despite trailing and cut the deficit to just three runs as they paired together a two-run double off the bat of Ty Wisdom, and another RBI double from Cole Johnson, as well as an RBI single from Ray Velazquez, to trim Ole Miss’ lead to 7-4.

The third inning saw the conclusion of Rebels’ starter Owen Kelly’s outing, and in his replacement came Terry Hayes Jr., who struggled, throwing 38 pitches in just 0.2 innings pitched. Grayson Gibson entered for Hayes, and allowed an RBI double with the run credited to Hayes, but ultimately gave Ole Miss a good outing with 2.0 innings pitched and only giving up one earned run.

Ole Miss quickly responded in the bottom of the frame when Bissetta stepped up to the plate with a runner on and found his second two-run home run of the game that gave Ole Miss a 9-2 advantage in the bottom of the third.

The pitching took over for the fourth inning, but the Governors struck again in the fifth when Johnson ripped another RBI double into the right field corner, cutting the Ole Miss lead to 9-5.

The Rebels — and the weather — went freezing cold as the game progressed, as Ole Miss went scoreless for the final five innings, with temperatures dropping below 40 degrees during the eighth inning

The Rebels, despite giving up five runs, had a slew of solid pitching on the day, concluded by Landon Waters, who entered the game for the ninth inning. He opened his outing with a walk, but bounced back with a strikeout and a pair of groundouts to secure the win.

Ole Miss now advances to 17-5 on the season as the Rebels head into their first home SEC weekend series of 2026.

A Look Ahead

Ole Miss will host the Kentucky Wildcats on Thursday for the first of a three-game set with first pitch scheduled for 7 P.M. CT.
