Ole Miss Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader With Game Two Win Over Evansville

OXFORD, Miss. — The Ole Miss Rebels swept the Friday doubleheader over the Evansville Purple Aces with a 14-2 game two victory at Swayze Field to advance to 14-2 on the season with the run-rule win The Rebels won game one, 7-2.

The Recap:

Ole Miss got the bats going quickly, as they plated a run in the first off the bat of Collin Reuter, who smacked an RBI single through the left side of the infield, which allowed Judd Utermark to trot home from third.

Each side was retired 1-2-3 in the second inning, but Ole Miss struck again when Dom Decker launched a leadoff home run to accumulate his fifth of the season and give Ole Miss a 2-0 lead.

Cade Townsend continued his impressive outing on the mound, keeping the Purple Aces with just one hit through five innings, but the story of the night lived in his run support from the offense.

It was an explosive fourth inning for Ole Miss at the plate as Daniel Pacella and Judd Utermark both connected with three-run home runs in the inning, giving Ole Miss an 8-0 lead and sending the crowd into a frenzy.

Townsend continued to dominate on the mound, as through five scoreless innings, he allowed just one hit, while picking up seven strikeouts.

The Rebels provided even more run support in the fifth as Owen Paino slapped an RBI single through the right side of the infield, scoring Tristan Bissetta, before Pacella crushed his second three-run home run in as many innings, giving Ole Miss a 12-0 lead.

Will Furniss joined the party with an RBI single of his own, scoring Decker and making it 13-0, Ole Miss.

Mike Bianco handed the ball over to Landon Waters ultimately ending Townsend’s night. Waters picked up where Townsend left, needing just seven pitches to get through the sixth inning in 1-2-3 fashion.

The Rebels scored for the third straight inning in the sixth, this time off a pinch-hit sacrifice fly from Cannon Goldin, which sent Brayden Randle racing home, making the game 14-0.

Ole Miss continued to threaten as they had runners on the corners with two outs, but Purple Ace’s pitcher Parker MacCauley recorded a strikeout to end the inning.

Into the seventh inning, Noah Allen entered the game on the mound for the Rebels, needing three outs for a run-rule victory. He finished the frame in 17 pitches to secure the win.

A Look Ahead

Ole Miss and Evansville will finish the series on Sunday at 1:30 P.M CT due to expected severe weather Saturday which caused Friday’s doubleheader.
