Ole Miss Baseball Climbs Back Into D1 Baseball’s Top 25 Following Series Win

OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss baseball is coming off a strong week. The Rebels successfully defended Swayze Field against Austin Peay on Tuesday and Kentucky in a Thursday–Saturday series, finishing 3-1 and climbing back into D1Baseball’s Top 25 rankings.

The Rebels were previously ranked No. 25 before a rough stretch dropped them out, but a 3-3 start in SEC play — highlighted by a win over then-No. 2 Texas and a series victory over No. 15 Kentucky — has them back in at a season-high No. 18.

Ole Miss jumped the Wildcats in the ranks this week as Kentucky fell four spots to No. 19.

Ten Southeastern Conference teams are in the top 25 this week: 2) Texas, 4) Arkansas, 5) Auburn, 6) Mississippi State, 7) Georgia, 8) Oklahoma, 18) Ole Miss, 19) Kentucky, 21) Tennessee, and 25) A&M.

How it happened

The Rebels have not been ranked since March 2nd after dropping two of three games in the Bruce Bolt College Classic in Houston. They fell to Baylor and Coastal Carolina, with their only win coming against Ohio State. Since then, Ole Miss has been winning games — just not against teams the polls thought good enough for the Rebels to jump back in.

The Rebels faced off against Southern Miss and Texas in a week where they only won the Friday game against the Longhorns in extra innings. The series against the Longhorns and the game vs. the Golden Eagles all were on the road.

However, the bounce-back win over the Wildcats was huge, and that and a midweek win over the Governors of Austin Peay earned Ole Miss its current spot.

This advances the Rebels to 19-6 on the season and 3-3 in SEC play, and they impressively hold a 17-1 record at Swayze Field with their only loss coming in game two against Kentucky.

A Look Ahead

The newly-No. 18 ranked Rebels have a big week ahead of them as they face-off against the Memphis Tigers on Tuesday night in Memphis at 6 P.M CT, before hosting the No. 6 team in the country, the Mississippi State Bulldogs, for a crucial weekend series.
