OXFORD, Miss. — Pete Golding and the Ole Miss staff landed another 2026 high school recruit in linebacker Tre’Kievion Ellis from Copiah Academy in Hazelhurst, Mississippi, adding more depth to an already restocked linebacker room.
Ellis had been committed to the Rebels since January 12, with Golding putting in work to land his commitment. The 6-foot-3, 225 pound linebacker had offers from schools like Minnesota, South Alabama, and Arkansas State, but chose the Rebels instead.
As a relative unknown, with Ellis being unranked there is some intrigue with his game. As someone who played both running back and middle linebacker, he is more than likely going to join a retooled linebacker room.
The potential is there, as you simply cannot teach that kind of size coming out of high school. He is also a fairly decent run defender, living in the backfield anytime you turn on his tape against run plays. As a pass defender, there are some things to work on, but those skills can be developed over time.
Why this matters
Pete Golding essentially has clay in a player like Ellis that he can mold into whatever he wants at the linebacker position. Ellis can sit and learn from experienced linebackers like Keaton Thomas and Suntarine Perkins. He could possibly become a Perkins-type player, as there are noticeable flashes of twitchiness when he rushes the passer.
He’s another in-state recruit, and Golding may have found himself a true gem in a player like Ellis. He arrives to Oxford as a raw player that has the measurables to be really good as a Rebel.
Welcome to Oxford, Tre. Hotty Toddy!
