Frankly, there is not a lot of positive to say about the game as a whole. It was, however, a great individual performance for Malik Dia, who had 24 points, six rebounds, and one assist. The team simply failed to rebound the ball, getting out-rebounded 39-24. It was also a struggle from the field, as Ole Miss shot 41 percent from the field and 13 percent from three.
The Rebels led for a mere three minutes and 47 seconds for the entire game. If there is one positive to take away, it is that Dia seems to have found his groove. He finished with another good day, but once again, it didn’t result in a team win.
Interesting Stat of the Game: Ole Miss forced 19 turnovers, while only having 11.
First Half Highlights
The game started with a Florida three, as the Gators started strong. Ilias Karmadine got the first points for Ole Miss with a dunk. The Rebels looked okay early, as they were hanging with a powerful Florida team until a missed three from Ole Miss seemed to shift momentum completely away to the Gators.
After the miss, the Gators started to get in their rhythm, and their lead grew. It was evident early on Florida was just the better team. Some unlucky bounces on rebounds started to cost the Rebels valuable points. The team was fighting, but the talent gap proved to be too much for the entire first half.
Ole Miss started to go on a run towards the end of the half, offering hope for a potential second-half comeback. The Rebels went into the half down 43-32. Dia was the leader on the floor with 11 points, three rebounds, and one assist in the first half, making some tough shots as well. It was a half that was certainly a struggle for Ole Miss, but the Rebs were not out of the game just yet.
Second Half Highlights
Dia got the half started, scoring the first basket. At the beginning of the half, he was cooking early. This sort of play wouldn’t last long, as Florida quickly got going, marking the beginning of the end for Ole Miss. The Gators’ lead, which was shortened to single digits early on in the second half, quickly rose back to double-digits, and the visitors never looked back.
Florida was on their A-game Saturday, and the Rebels had no response. The fight from the team as a whole started to wane, with the exception of Dia and some of the bench players. The game was all but over, yet there were still eight minutes left to play. Chris Beard started to put in his end-of-the-bench guys, with those players bringing some energy to the game.
Ole Miss struggled to score, with the exception of Dia, who recorded 13 points in the second half. The entire team struggled to rebound, as they had the whole game, marking a tough end to a game against the Gators. With Florida seemingly unable to miss, the game would mercifully come to an end with a 94-75 loss for the Rebels.
