No. 25 Ole Miss Baseball Stays Perfect in Tuesday Clash Against Southeast Missouri State, Moves to 9-0 for first time since 2022

OXFORD, Miss. — No. 25 Ole Miss baseball faced off against the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks on Tuesday evening, and the Rebels took away a 13-3 run-rule victory in seven innings to advance to 9-0 on the season.

The Recap

The Redhawks struck first as a lead-off single materialized into an RBI single for Joe Hall; however, the Rebels fired right back as they batted eight batters and scored three in the first.

Tristan Bissetta continued his hot start to the season, driving in the first run with Collin Reuter sending in the second right behind, before Topher Jones concluded the inning with an infield single for his first RBI as a Rebel.

SEMO did not stop at the plate, however, driving in another run but stranding two runners in scoring position in the second.

When the bottom of the second came, the floodgates opened for Ole Miss as they batted around the lineup and scored six straight 0ne-out runs before the second out was recorded.

The long inning was started by a ground out from Hayden Federico, but back-to-back free passes to the top of the lineup set the table for Will Furniss who slapped an RBI double off the second baseman’s glove, before Utermark advanced home on a wild pitch. Bissetta then recorded his second RBI single of the day as Furniss raced home. The line kept moving as Cannon Goldin recorded a two-RBI single, scoring Bissetta and Reuter, before finding himself on third base racing home for the final run of the inning as he advanced on a wild pitch.

They proceeded to load the bases, but Brayden Randle was caught trying to advance home on a wild pitch to finally conclude the inning with Ole Miss ahead 9-2.

Bats went quiet in the third, with each team being held scoreless and each stranding a base runner.

The Redhawks eventually broke the mid-game deadlock in the fifth when Hall recorded his second RBI single of the game, shaving the Rebels’ lead to 9-3.

However, Ole Miss found the bats again in the seventh, just in time to send the fans home early.

The inning kicked off with a walk to Randle, before Federico also drew a walk, giving runners on first and second for pinch-hitter Owen Paino.

Paino took advantage, with a little help from the wind, recording his first hit of the season as a fly ball carried and bounced off the wall for a long RBI single.

Furniss, the following batter, then sent his first home run of the season out to right-center field for a three-run homer, ending the game in a run-rule win for Ole Miss, 13-3.

A Look Ahead

Ole Miss now heads on its first trip away from Swayze Field, as the Rebels travel to Houston for the Bruce Bolt Classic, where they will take on Baylor, Ohio State, and No. 9 Coastal Carolina
