Ole Miss’ Cotie McMahon Shines in Statement Week, Earns Co-SEC Player of the Week

OXFORD, Miss. — When the moment gets big, Cotie McMahon has a habit of getting bigger right along with it.

After a statement week that included wins over No. 5 Oklahoma and rival Mississippi State, the Ole Miss standout was named Co-SEC Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. It’s the eighth weekly conference honor of McMahon’s career — and her first since arriving in the SEC.

McMahon’s résumé of weekly awards is already well established. Prior to transferring to Ole Miss, she earned six Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors and was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Jan. 22, 2024. Now, she’s added SEC recognition after putting together one of the most impactful weeks by a Rebel this season.

The timing couldn’t have been better.

Fresh off being named to the Wooden Award Women’s Midseason Top 25 Watch List, McMahon delivered when Ole Miss needed her most. Against Oklahoma in Norman, she poured in a team-high 22 points while adding four assists and four rebounds, guiding the Rebels to their 14th top-five victory in program history. With the game hanging in the balance late, McMahon attacked the rim, absorbed contact, and calmly knocked down a free throw in the final minute — a sequence that helped seal a 74–69 road win.

She followed that performance with another takeover against Mississippi State.

McMahon led all scorers with 21 points in the rivalry matchup, marking her 10th game this season with at least 20 points — the most by an Ole Miss player since the 2021–22 season. Even more impressively, she has now scored in double figures in each of the Rebels’ first 19 games this year, tying former Rebel Bianca Thomas for the longest such streak in recent program history.

Across the two wins, McMahon totaled 43 points, ranking third among all SEC players for the week and finishing just one made field goal shy of the conference leader. She also placed third in total field goals made (16) and three-point percentage (44.4%), further underscoring how efficient and complete her performances were.

Alabama’s Jessica Timmons shared the Co-SEC Player of the Week honor, while Tennessee’s Mia Pauldo was named SEC Freshman of the Week.

For Ole Miss, though, the takeaway is simple: when the Rebels need a bucket, a stop, or a moment of calm under pressure, Cotie McMahon continues to deliver — and now the SEC is taking notice.
