Ole Miss Ace Hunter Elliot Named Preseason All American by Perfect Game
OXFORD, Miss. — The Ole Miss Rebels are just over a month away from opening what is shaping up to be a highly anticipated season at Swayze Field.
Few expected Ole Miss to reach the heights it did last year. Picked to finish second-to-last in the SEC during the preseason, the Rebels battled throughout the year, caught fire at key moments, and ultimately earned the right to host an NCAA regional on the road to the College World Series.
Several key pieces from Mike Bianco’s squad are set to return, most notably ace left-hander Hunter Elliott.
The Tupelo High School product was recently named a Third Team Preseason All-American by Perfect Game, adding yet another national honor to his résumé.
Elliott made an immediate impact upon arriving in Oxford in 2022, highlighted by a strong 6.2-inning performance in Game 2 of the College World Series Finals in Omaha — a pivotal moment in Ole Miss’ march to its first national championship.
After appearing in just two games during the 2023 season, Elliott underwent Tommy John surgery, sidelining him for the remainder of that year and all of the 2024 campaign.
As expected, his return last season was nothing short of impressive. Elliott consistently worked out of trouble and anchored the Rebels’ pitching staff, finishing the year with a 10–3 record across 17 appearances (16 starts), a 2.94 ERA, and a 102-to-40 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 85.2 innings.
While his future in Oxford was uncertain entering the offseason, Elliott ultimately became the lone member of the weekend rotation to return. Mason Nichols and Riley Maddox both exhausted their eligibility and were selected in the MLB Draft.
Now, Elliott is once again drawing national attention with his Perfect Game Preseason All-American selection as he and the Rebels prepare to return to Swayze Field on Feb. 13, opening the season with a three-game weekend series against Nevada.
