OXFORD, Miss. – In a week filled with new offensive hires across the Ole Miss staff, Matt Zenitz from 247 Sports is reporting that Frank Wilson, the interim head coach for LSU, is expected to join Pete Golding’s staff in 2026. He is widely anticipated as being named running backs coach for the Rebels.
The New Orleans native previously worked at Ole Miss from 2005-07 as running backs and special teams coach. He spent six years on Les Miles’ staff at LSU from 2010 to 2015 and four additional years under Brian Kelly from 2022 to 2025.
Most recently, Wilson played a crucial role in signing the No. 1 transfer portal class in the country, offering elite talent on both sides of the football.
Wilson began his football journey at Nicholls State, where he played collegiately before transitioning into coaching as a student assistant in 1996. His early coaching career started at the high school level in Louisiana, with stops at charter schools Edna Karr and O.P. Walker.
After spending three years at Ole Miss, Wilson accepted the running backs coach position at Southern Miss in 2008. In 2009, he joined Lane Kiffin in Knoxville and served as Tennessee’s wide receivers coach.
As far as his relationship with Golding, Frank hired Pete to be his defensive coordinator when Wilson was the head coach at UTSA in 2016. Wilson’s ability to recruit and bring talent to Ole Miss will be invaluable for the Rebels.
Wilson will join general manager Austin Thomas and assistant general manager Kelvin Bolden as other former LSU staffers to join Ole Miss for the 2026 season.
