Ole Miss LB Tyler Banks Honors Chucky Mullins While Keeping Rebels Locked in on Playoff Path
OXFORD, Miss. — There are three more weeks left in the college football regular season before Conference Championship weekend. After Ole Miss’ 49-0 win over The Citadel, the focus now shifts to the Rebels’ final two SEC games. Rebels’ linebacker Tyler Banks, however, says it’s one day at time for the team.
One Step At a Time
It was an expected win for Ole Miss against FCS opposition this past Saturday, one that they delivered with a strong performance. Now the final steps of the College Football Playoff push begin, with a home game against Florida, then the Egg Bowl in Starkville.
The Rebels are ranked No. 7 in the second week of the College Football Playoffs.Â
Banks knows the importance of the next two games, but makes it clear the team is not looking past the next practice day. The outside noise regarding Ole Miss and the playoffs remains outside the building while the team is concentrating on what they can control.
“One game, one day, one step at a time,” said Banks.
“That’s all we are saying, just staying focused on the task at hand. Not letting noise outside affect anything that’s going on in this building. That’s all we have been doing, just taking it one day, one practice at a time.“

It’s hard not to listen to the ‘rat poison’ with Ole Miss two wins from the CFP and possibly a SEC Championship game if results go their way. But Coach Kiffin and the team are doing their best to remove those thoughts, focusing on each game, as they have all season.
Wearing No.38
Banks was chosen to wear the famous No. 38 jersey on game days in honor of Ole Miss legend Chucky Mullins. The senior linebacker was asked about wearing the No. 38 and how it feels. He explains he does not take for granted the opportunity he has been given and what it truly represents.
“It’s an honor to say the least. It’s a blessing. Just being able to represent and know what that number truly means, what Chucky (Mullins) did for this university. Having that number on my back each Saturday is something I don’t take for granted and try to live up to every snap.“

Banks will get the chance to do that for at least three more games, with the first one possibly the final one for the Rebels at the Vaught. Ole Miss welcomes Florida this coming Saturday in the final regular season game. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN.
