Lane Kiffin Sets Sunday Team Meeting as Coaching Decision Nears
OXFORD, Miss. — Lane Kiffin has dominated the national sports media conversation this week, with the college football world glued to every update surrounding his future. With Ole Miss fresh off an 11–1 regular season and positioned for a College Football Playoff berth, the question remains: will Kiffin stay in Oxford, or leave for LSU?
Many expected that answer to come Saturday. It didn’t. Instead, Kiffin met for hours with Athletics Director Keith Carter and Chancellor Glenn Boyce without final resolution.
Fans were met with another day of silence as rumors swirled and LSU continued its aggressive push to lure Kiffin to Baton Rouge. His success at Ole Miss — transforming the Rebels into a legitimate championship contender — has put him at the center of the sport’s biggest coaching battle.
But a timeline is finally emerging.
According to ESPN’s Marty Smith, Kiffin has scheduled a 9:00 a.m. team meeting on Sunday morning, where he is expected to inform players of his final decision before it becomes public.

The decision to meet with the team first has heightened speculation that Kiffin may indeed be preparing to move on. LSU has remained confident throughout the process, and multiple reports have suggested the Tigers believe they are in position to land him.
Florida also pursued Kiffin earlier in the cycle, but that push faded as the Gators shifted to other candidates.
One factor complicating everything: Kiffin’s reported desire to continue coaching Ole Miss through the postseason — even if he accepts another job. His wish to finish what he started with this 11-win Rebels team has contributed to the delay.
Since arriving at Ole Miss in 2020, Kiffin has compiled a 55–19 record, elevating the program to heights rarely seen in modern Rebels history. His overall college head-coaching mark stands at 116–53.
The wait is nearly over. By mid-morning Sunday, Ole Miss players — and the entire college football world — should finally know Lane Kiffin’s plans.
