Chambliss Leads with Accountability as Rebels Look to Keep Momentum vs. The Citadel

OXFORD, Miss. – As Ole Miss prepares to host The Citadel on Saturday at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, quarterback Trinidad Chambliss has been focused this week on building off last Saturday’s 30–14 win over South Carolina — a game that tested the Rebels’ resilience and patience on offense.

Chambliss, who accounted for both a passing and rushing touchdown in the win, admitted postgame that the performance wasn’t his sharpest, but he remains confident in his ability — and that of his teammates — to keep improving down the stretch. That stretch starts Saturday at noon.

“Just an off night for me, and I can’t have that going forward…” Chambliss explained. “So I just have to be better — executing and just playing better ball.”

Still, there were bright spots — most notably running back Kewan Lacy, who posted a season-high 167 rushing yards and a 54-yard touchdown that sealed the game late. Chambliss praised both Lacy and the offensive line for stepping up when the Rebels needed it most.

It helps me a lot when we have an explosive back like Kewan. It takes the pressure off me when we might be struggling like we were today. We popped that big run toward the fourth quarter, and that was huge. It just helps a lot to have a great back — and shout out to our O-line for making holes, blocking defenders, and moving guys up front.

Chambliss also credited the defense for carrying the load when the offense stalled.

“Yeah, I’m so proud of them. They stepped up today and it was really them who carried the whole game,” he said after the win over the Gamecocks. “The offense, we really couldn’t get stuff going. And they were getting stops, sacking the quarterback, putting pressure on him — our DBs did a great job with route coverage. Credit to our defense today.”

When asked about what head coach Lane Kiffin said after the muffed punt, Chambliss smiled.

“I honestly didn’t quite hear him that well, but he probably just gave me some words of encouragement and was like, ‘Let’s go. We got to start going and making plays and putting points on the board.’”

The quarterback also expressed his appreciation for Rebel Nation, who packed Vaught-Hemingway despite it being Halloween weekend.

“Yeah, it was great to see all our fans,” Chambliss said. “The support is very appreciated and we appreciate them coming to the game. I know it’s Halloween, so people probably had plans tonight, so they went out of their way to come watch us play — and it means a lot.”

Since taking over as starter earlier in the season against Arkansas, Chambliss has remained grounded through the highs and lows of SEC play.

It’s been a long time coming since that Arkansas game, and the season’s honestly flown by. But I just got to stay even keel — not get too high, not get too low. There’s going to be bumps in the road and ups and downs throughout the season. So I just have to stay levelheaded and make sure my goal is to do whatever it takes to win for this team.

Ole Miss remains home this weekend, hosting The Citadel on Saturday, November 8, at 12:00 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.

With bowl season inching closer, the Rebels will look to keep momentum rolling — and Chambliss will aim to find that offensive rhythm early before turning things over to the backups in what should be a tune-up before a challenging stretch ahead.
