Lane Kiffin looking ahead to Washington State game Saturday in Oxford

OXFORD, Miss – Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin met with the media on Monday for his weekly press conference going into the Rebels’ homecoming game against Washington State.
“This is a really exciting game this week,” Kiffin said. “Preparation began last night with our players and a walk through today.”
The Rebels head into this matchup at 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the SEC after a 24-19 win over then-No. 4 LSU on September 27th.
“This is a really good challenge for us coming off of a bye to play really well against a team that is 3-2,” Kiffin said. “In their losses they have played really good defense. (Washington State) has given up 3, 10 and 13 so basically nine points per game,” he added.
“In college football, you have to come play every week you see it all over the country,” Kiffin said. “We challenge our guys not to listen to the noise out there or the rankings because nothing means anything until the final one.”
Kiffin added that the team looked good today and he and his staff are going to challenge them all week.
Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss has been embraced by the Ole Miss fans and the community after the injury to starter Austin Simmons.
“I think our fanbase loves these stories; we’ve had a number of players like this,” Kiffin said. The (Trinidad) flag is funny… he’s from Michigan, his dad is from South Bend, Indiana but it’s all great.”
Kiffin also was asked about the status of Austin Simmons’ ankle injury.
“Continuing to get closer to 100 percent. He is not there yet,” Kiffin said.
