
Kirby Smart details Ole Miss matchup and sends message to Bulldog fanbase

Oxford, Miss. –Â Kirby Smart addressed the media earlier this week regarding the top 10 matchup in Athens this weekend between No. 4 Ole Miss and No. 9 Georgia. The Bulldogs have lost one home game since 2019 against Alabama earlier this season and look to avenge last season’s loss in Oxford on Saturday.
To begin his presser, Smart credited the coaching style of Lane Kiffin and acknowledged the importance of having home-field advantage against Ole Miss.
“We need the best atmosphere we’ve ever had in Sanford Stadium. I have a lot of respect for Lane. He does an incredible job. Probably one of the best things he does is in-game coaching…. his impact on the quarterback and offensive play and ability to communicate with the quarterback—he does a great job of getting the quarterback’s attention and getting them in the right place based on looks.”

Leading the charge for Kiffin’s 2025 squad has been Trinidad Chambliss at quarterback, who’s started and won against Arkansas, Tulane, LSU, and Washington State. The Ferris State transfer has totalled 1,286 passing yards, 281 rushing yards, and 10 touchdowns up to this point.
“He’s explosive. He’s quick, fast, tough and has a great lower body and great instincts… he’s patient behind blocks, he does a great job in the draw game, and he’s a good passer. They should get the greatest award there is for finding this guy. He is a really good football player that they went out and got.”

Remaining on the topic of offensive studs, Kewan Lacy has been an unbelievable surprise for Ole Miss, carrying the rock 126 times, gathering 587 yards, and averaging over 4 yards per carry. Analyzing the running back room, the next most utilized back is Logan Diggs, who has 18 total carries, 108 less than Lacy. Kirby described the challenges he presents on the field.
“He becomes more effective because of the quarterback and the tempo. They wear people down, we’ve had a lot of practice getting lots of snaps defensively. They get lots of snaps, and he’s a good back. He’s vertical, sideways, explosive, and a really good player.”
