Today, the media spoke with Ole Miss defensive lineman Will Echoles who believes the defense has done a nice job adjusting over the course of the season, specifically in these last two games.
“We’re playing relentlessly and being on the same page. When we get our cleats in the ground, I think we’re pretty damn good.”
– Echoles on the state of the defense
Up to this point, Echoles has recorded 19 total tackles, one pass deflection, and a sack on the year. On top of his overall ability, Will credits senior Zxavian Harris for allowing him to take one-on-one matchups and maneuver the offensive gaps.
“Zay’s my guy, man, he’s big… a lot of times he takes on double teams so I can make a play… I’m going to hate that he’ll be gone next year. I’m just cherishing every game with him.“
– Echoles on Zxavian Harris
Reflecting on last year’s game versus LSU, the Ole Miss defense allowed 337 yards in the air and three touchdowns, including the game winner on the Tigers’ first possession in overtime. As one of the few players on the team to recall that experience, Echoles admits it still leaves a poor taste in his mouth.
“You just have that feeling in your gut from last year, so just use that as motivation.“
– Echoles on the LSU loss in 2024
In other news, Echoles is also one of few current layers to have played with Jaxson Dart, who was today announced as the Giants’ starter for this Sunday in the NFL. Will congratulated and provided his insight on Jaxson’s big news.
