Ole Miss WR Josh Pfeifer Joins ‘Cornhole for a Cure’ to Support Cystic Fibrosis Research

OXFORD, Miss. — The fifth annual Cornhole for a Cure, benefitting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, was held Sept. 16, 2025, at the Oxford Conference Center. Ole Miss wide receiver Josh Pfeifer was on hand to help raise money and awareness.
“I always love going to the CF event they put together every year,” Pfeifer says.
For Molly Meisenheimer, whose two grandsons have Cystic Fibrosis, Pfeifer’s involvement means the world.
“Josh Pfeifer has been a friend of the CF community since meeting our grandsons four years ago.“

“Our son and his wife have three boys, two of which—Miller and Bennett—have Cystic Fibrosis,” Meisenheimer explains. “Aaron doesn’t have it, nor is he a carrier which is wonderful, and he is his two brothers’ biggest advocate.”
The evening included a catered dinner by Obys, a silent auction, and teams of six competing in cornhole. In previous years, Pfeifer served as an auctioneer, winning over the crowd with his smile and humble nature. This year, he competed alongside the Meisenheimer boys.
Their team — Pfeifer, Miller Meisenheimer (14), Bennett Meisenheimer (10), Aaron Meisenheimer, and friend Noah Cannon — raised over $3,000 and took home gift cards to Proud Larry’s.
“Josh was our ‘celebrity guest’ last night. He started the competition by tossing the first bag. All eyes of spectators and other teams were on his bag as it flew through the air and into the hole. The crowd erupted and Josh, in his kind face, just smiled at the applause.”

Pfeifer says his motivation is simple.
“It is awesome to see all the different people that come together to help those in need. I don’t go to be seen as some special person because I play for the Ole Miss football team. I go because I want the three boys to know they have another ‘brother’ in me and that they can reach out if they ever need anything.”

In all, the event raised an impressive $60,000. With sponsors covering food, prizes, and auction items, 100% of proceeds go directly to the foundation.
“All funds raised help with research and education for this genetic disease. Josh made the night!” Meisenheimer says.
About the Cause
Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disease affecting respiratory and digestive systems, requiring daily treatment and medication just to breathe normally. Both parents must carry the gene, and each of their children will have a 1-in-4 chance of being born with the disease.
Cleanliness and prevention are critical, as added illnesses can be life-threatening.
Miller Meisenheimer, now in 9th grade and a member of the Oxford High cross country team, has been speaking to groups about living with CF since age 8.
“Running is very good for his lungs,” his grandmother notes.
The Meisenheimer family remains committed to raising awareness, alongside devoted supporters like Pfeifer.
“Our family, with the help of many others and people like Josh Pfeifer, want to make CF stand for Cure Found! Our hope is our grandsons and others diagnosed with CF will live long, healthy lives,” Meisenheimer says.

How to Help
With little to no government funding, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation depends on private fundraising. Roughly 30,000 Americans live with CF — including fewer than 300 in Mississippi. Two of them are right here in Oxford.
