Ole Miss TE Dae’Quan Wright paying no attention to polls: ‘The only ranking that matters is the ranking at the end’

OXFORD, Miss. — The Ole Miss football staff and players are still pumped after the win over LSU this past weekend. However, they know absolutely nothing is won in September.

One player who had an excellent game in the win over the Tigers is tight-end Dae’Quan Wright. The big man tallied four receptions for 66 yards — with his final catch the biggest, resulting in a first down and the game.

Great Victories Bring Us Together

We are only five games into the season, but a win like the one over LSU can bring a team together. Wright was asked about the atmosphere on the team after the huge win.

“It’s been pretty good,” said Wright.

There’s been great energy, people having fun, flying around. It’s just fun to be out there with the guys after a great victory like that. Just seeing what it can do to our team, and how much it can bring us together.

Wright was a key part of a potential game-clinching play against the Tigers. On 4th down with just 1:37 to play, he was called upon because, instead of punting and relying on the defense, Lane Kiffin made the call to go for it.

Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss threw to his left to his tight end, who made the play to win the game. Instead of charging for the endzone, Wright went down to use as much clock as possible, something he had been coached to do.

Yeah, just being aware of the situation, not being selfish, just doing what I’m coached to do. So that’s what I did, and we were victorious.

Only Rankings That Matter Are After Regular Season

Wright was part of last season’s 2024 roster, one that was hyped by the media to the point of being considered a playoff-qualified team before the season even began. But that did not materialize, despite the team not getting carried away with the lofty predictions.

But this season, the win over LSU has moved the Rebels into the No. 4 spot in the AP Top 25, yet Wright says he and the team are not taking any notice of rankings yet.

Rankings don’t matter right now. You know, it’s still early. We still have business to attend to. The only ranking that matters is the ranking at the end.

Here’s another big reception from Wright against LSU.

The team will still be working hard on the training field this week, but the Rebels will have their first bye this coming weekend. Then comes a matchup against Washington State on October 11.
