
Notes and Notables: Rebels manhandle the Green Wave

OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss defeated Tulane, 45-10, Saturday at Vaught-Hemingway. The win moves the Rebels to 4-0 (2-0 SEC) on the season.
Here are some notes and notables from the win over the Green Wave, courtesy of Ole Miss Athletics.
SERIES INFORMATION
• This was the 74th all-time meeting between Ole Miss and Tulane.
• Ole Miss leads the series 46-28 on the field, including 14-2 in Oxford.
• The Rebels are currently on a 14-game winning streak against Tulane dating back to 1989.

STARTERS
• S Kapena Gushiken made his 17th career start, his first at Ole Miss.
• OL Jayden Williams is Ole Miss’ active career leader in starts, making his 23rd today at right tackle.
• LB TJ Dottery and LT Diego Pounds made their 13th consecutive starts at Ole Miss, which leads all active Rebels.
DEBUTS
• CB John Ross Ashley, OL Terez Davis and QB AJ Maddox all made their season debuts, with Davis and Maddox both making their first appearances as a Rebel.

• Today’s attendance was 65,644.
• Ole Miss has now started 4-0 for the second consecutive season, the third start of at least 4-0 of the Lane Kiffin era … This marks the first time Ole Miss has notched back-to-back 4-0 starts since the 2014 (9-4) and 2015 (10-3) seasons.
• Ole Miss is now 308-116-8 (.722) all-time in Oxford (286-113-8 after vacated wins) … Under Lane Kiffin, the Rebels are 30-6 at Vaught-Hemingway, including a 30-3 mark since the start of the 2021 season and a 16-1 record since 2023.
• Ole Miss is now 72-17 (.808) vs. non-conference opponents dating back to a 38-0 win over Tulane on Nov. 12, 1994.
• Under head coach Lane Kiffin, Ole Miss is now 21-2 against non-conference opponents, which includes a 21-0 mark in the regular season.
• Ole Miss is now 171-94-7 (.640) all-time during the month of September (after vacated wins).
• Ole Miss is now 110-36-3 (.748) in September home games (including contests played in Memphis and Jackson), and 85-23-2 (.780) in September games in Oxford (all after vacated wins).
OFFENSIVE NOTES
• Ole Miss has scored 179 points through their first four games of the season, tied for the third-most in program history (220 in 2024, 219 in 2015, 179 in 2021).
• This was the seventh consecutive 30-point victory against a non-conference opponent for Ole Miss dating back to the 2024 season opener vs. Furman.
• QB Trinidad Chambliss ended the day with 419 yards of total offense, going 17-of-27 for 307 passing yards and two scores, while rushing for 112 yards on 14 carries.
• Chambliss (307 passing, 114 rushing) is one of four Ole Miss QBs to ever have 300 yards passing and 100 yards rushing in a single game, joining Archie Manning vs. Alabama in 1969 (436 passing, 104 rushing), Chad Kelly vs. Arkansas in 2015 (368 passing, 110 rushing) and Jordan Ta’amu vs. Arkansas in 2018 (387 passing, 141 rushing).
• Chambliss is the first Rebel quarterback to break 100 yards rushing since Jaxson Dart rushed for 136 against Georgia Tech in 2023 … Chambliss also surpassed 1,500 career rushing yards, ending today with 1,518.
• WR Deuce Alexander hauled in four receptions for a career-high 94 yards, his second consecutive career-game after notching 70 yards vs. Arkansas.
• TE Dae’Quan Wright caught three passes for 71 yards and one touchdown … Wright has now broken onto the top-10 lists all-time at Ole Miss among tight ends in yards (607, 10th) and touchdowns (6, T-7th).
• RB Kewan Lacy rushed 18 times for 68 yards and two touchdowns, giving him seven scores on the season … Lacy’s seven rushing TD through four games are the most by a Rebel newcomer in available records (since at least 1985).
• WR De’Zhaun Stribling caught three passes for 62 yards, including a season-long 53 yards.
• WR Harrison Wallace’s one catch gave him 100 in his overall career.
DEFENSIVE NOTES
• At 10 points allowed, Ole Miss held Tulane its fewest points in Oxford since 1992 (9) and fewest points overall in the series since 2012 in New Orleans (0).
• Since the beginning of the 2024 season, the Rebel defense is allowing an average 8.4 points per game against non-conference opponents.
• This marks the 12th game holding opponents to fewer than 300 yards since the arrival of defensive coordinator Pete Golding in 2023, the second this season.
• Tulane was 0-for-3 on fourth down, all of which came in the second half.
• Ole Miss held Tulane QB Jake Retzlaff to a career low 56 passing yards.
• LB Jaden Yates racked up 11 total tackles, the first player this season to have 10 or more and the most by a Rebel since TJ Dottery tallied 13 at South Carolina in 2024.
• DT Will Echoles finished with a career-high eight tackles with a half TFL and one pass breakup.
• CB Cedrick Beavers hauled in his first career interception, the second pick of the year Rebels.
• The Ole Miss defense forced 17 quarterback hurries, their most since 19 against Duke last year in the Gator Bowl … DE Kam Franklin led with four.
• DT Zxavian Harris had 1.5 TFL, giving him 5.0 on the season.
SPECIAL TEAMS NOTES
• K Lucas Carneiro went 3-of-3 on field goals, including a 54-yarder in the second quarter to tie his career long … Carneiro’s field goal is tied with Jonathan Nichols (Vanderbilt, 2003) and Tim Montz (Vanderbilt, 1996) for the sixth-longest in program history.
