Notes and Notables in Ole Miss’ 41-35 win over Arkansas

OXFORD, Miss. — (Release) The Rebels and Razorbacks have had some nail-biting games and Saturday’s at Vaught-Hemingway was no exception. Ole Miss emerged with a 41-35 win to move to 3-0 overall, 2-0 in the SEC on the season.

Here are some notes and notables from the win.

SERIES INFORMATION

• This was the 72nd all-time meeting between Ole Miss and Arkansas.
• The Razorbacks lead the series 37-34-1 on the field (37-32-1 after vacated Ole Miss wins from 2012 & 2013).
• Arkansas’ records will now indicate a 38-31-1 advantage for the Razorbacks … Arkansas claims a forfeit victory in a 1914 game that Ole Miss won 13-7.
• Ole Miss leads 11-6 on the field in Oxford (10-6 after vacated wins).
• The home team has now won six of the last seven contests in the series.

CAPTAINS

• TJ Dottery (LB) Kam Franklin (DE), Luke Hasz (TE).

STARTERS

• QB Trinidad Chambliss made his first start as a Rebel … Chambliss started 16 games at Division II Ferris State, including all 15 during its national title 2024 season.
• LG Delano Townsend made his start as a Rebel, the 12th total of his career after starting 11 games at UAB last year.

GENERAL NOTES

• Today’s attendance was 65,068.
• Ole Miss is now 170-94-7 (.640) all-time during the month of September (after vacated wins).
• Ole Miss is now 109-36-3 (.746) in September home games (including contests played in Memphis and Jackson), and 84-23-2 (.779) in September games in Oxford (all after vacated wins).
• Ole Miss has started 3-0 for the fifth consecutive season, the first such streak since the Rebels did so in seven consecutive seasons between 1956-62 … When including ties, that streak extends to 1963.

OFFENSIVE NOTES

• QB Trinidad Chambliss went 21-of-29 passing for 353 yards and a touchdown while adding 62 rushing yards and two scores on 15 carries in his first start as a Rebel.
• Chambliss’ 415 yards of total offense are the most by a Rebel QB making their first start since Jordan Ta’amu’s 444 against Arkansas on Oct. 28, 2017.
• Chambliss’ 353 passing yards are also the most by a Rebel QB in their first start since Ta’amu’s 368 in the same game vs. Arkansas.
• In his overall career, Chambliss passed 5,000 yards of total offense (5,073) and 3,500 passing yards (3,667) tonight.
• WR Harrison Wallace III led the Rebels with 92 yards on six catches and a touchdown … Through three games, Wallace has 339 yards receiving.
• WR De’Zhaun Stribling caught his first touchdown as a Rebel, the 18th of his overall career … He entered the day ranked sixth among all active FBS receivers in career receiving touchdowns.
• WR Deuce Alexander finished with a career-high 70 yards on four catches.
• WR Cayden Lee hauled in a new career-long catch of 62 yards, ending the day with three catches for 75 yards.
• RB Kewan Lacy rushed 17 times for 44 yards and a score, his fifth rushing touchdown in three games as a Rebel … Lacy is the first Rebel rusher to open their Ole Miss career with rushing touchdowns in their first three games since Ulysses Bentley IV in 2022.
• Lacy also set career-highs in receptions (four) and receiving yards (40).
• TE Dae’Quan Wright notched a career-long 64-yard reception, his lone catch of the day.

DEFENSIVE NOTES

• Ole Miss recorded six pass breakups against Arkansas, the most batting away 12 against LSU in 2024 … Each breakup was committed by a different player (Nick Cull, TJ Dottery, Ricky Fletcher, Zxavian Harris, Sage Ryan, Wydett Williams Jr.).
• LB Suntarine Perkins led Ole Miss with nine tackles and added one TFL, giving him 20.0 in his career.
• LB TJ Dottery notched eight tackles, giving him 102 in his career … Dottery also forced a fumble late in the fourth quarter to seal the game for the Rebels.
• S Kapena Gushiken had six tackles against Arkansas, which also put him at 100 total tackles for his career.
• S Wydett Williams Jr. recovered Dottery’s forced fumble, the third recovery of his career and first as a Rebel.

SPECIAL TEAMS NOTES

• K Lucas Carneiro was 2-of-2 on field goals, hitting from 23 and 36 yards out … On the season, Carneiro is now 7-of-8.
• P Oscar Bird punted twice for an average of 55 yards, including a career-long of 59.
• The Rebels held Arkansas to 0 kickoff return yards and -2 punt return yards, the first time holding an opponent to negative return yards in a game since stuffing Vanderbilt to -1 yards on Nov. 20, 2021.
