Kewan Lacy Quickly Establishing Himself as a Difference-Maker for Ole Miss

OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss football opened the season last Saturday with a 63-7 victory over the Georgia State Panthers with a complete all around game. Perhaps the biggest thing that stuck out in the win was the Rebels’ running game — led by transfer Kewan Lacy.

Lacy, who transferred to Ole Miss from Missouri this spring, made his Rebel debut getting the start next to Austin Simmons in the backfield and the speedy running back made the most of his first true playing time opportunity.

Lacy’s initial stat line is impressive as he totaled 108 rushing yards on just 16 carries, an strong 6.8 yard per carry average. He also scored and his first three collegiate touchdowns.

While that overall stat line is strong, the extra stats only make it crazier.

Lacy forced 13 missed tackles, including shoving two defensive lineman off him and spinning to the outside where he absorbed a tackle as he splashed into the end zone for his first touchdown.

On his second touchdown, Lacy absorbed yet another tackle, forcing through the line and finding the end zone with a defender around his leg.

He also notched an explosive 42-yard touchdown where he shook one tackle and won the footrace — with a monster block from fellow transfer De’Zhaun Stribling — as he provided the Rebels’ third straight touchdown on the ground.

A Look Ahead

The Rebels travel to Lexington to face the Kentucky Wildcats this weekend in search of revenge as the Wildcats spoiled the Rebels’ playoff plans with an unlikely upset road win in Oxford just a year ago.

Ole Miss will lean on the youngsters Lacy and Simmons to lead the offense in what is historically a tightly-contested matchup.

Saturday’s inaugural game of the 2025 SEC schedule will kick off at 2:30 p.m. CT at Kroger Field in Lexington, Kentucky where it will be televised on the ABC Network.

Hotty Toddy!
