Feeling Comfortable: Deuce Alexander Settling In as Key Piece of Ole Miss Offense

OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss wide receiver Harrison Wallace III may be getting the headlines after his second 100-yard receiving performance in a row, but fellow transfer Deuce Alexander has also started his life as a Rebel with two strong showings.

Lane Kiffin brought Deuce in from Wake Forest, and the transfer has delivered, showing his qualities both as a receiver and in the run game.

Get Deuce the Ball Early

The dual-threat wide receiver was quick to get into the swing of things against Kentucky on Saturday. At Tuesday’s press conference, he was asked about his fast starts and if it is intentional.

I just think my coordinator, my coach, and the quarterback believe if they get the ball in my hands early, like get me going, they’ll get me going for the rest of the game. They just trust me enough to get the ball in my hands and let me do my thing. It’s just something that happens over time.

Deuce Alexander

Coming from the Demon Deacons, Alexander played in front of 35,000 on a good day. Now, with the Rebels having doubled that, he has had to adjust to that and to playing in the SEC, both of which he can now tick off as accomplishments.

“I’m definitely feeling better, way more comfortable after the first game, like getting my nerves out,” Alexander replied.

My first SEC game, Oxford, you know, big fans, big stadium, way bigger than where I came from, so I just had to get used to it. Now I feel way more comfortable.

Deuce Alexander

Impressed with the wide receiver room

The redshirt sophomore is impressed with the wide receiver room and feels blessed to be part of the group, having been brought in by Kiffin.

“It just feels great to be a part of such a great group,” he explained.

Like out of the portal, we brought in five guys, and I just feel like I’m just blessed to be one of the guys brought in here, and they trust me enough to bring me here. Trust me in the offense, and I just feel like we all fit a role and we’re all doing it well.

All for one

From talking with the wide receivers this season, though it is early, it’s clear there is an attitude of unselfishness in the room. Deuce talked about that and their goals as a unit.

I feel like at the end of the day, like we all got the same goal and it’s just to get to the last natty game or championship–just win and go 1-0 every week. So I feel like it doesn’t matter about targets, catches, yards. It doesn’t matter about that, just matters about the W.”
