OXFORD, Miss. — Behind another poised performance from quarterback Trinidad Chambliss and a relentless Landshark defense, Ole Miss cruised to a 45-10 statement win over Tulane to set the stage for an intense conference schedule for the remainder of the year.

The Rebels extend their current win streak over Tulane to 14 with the victory.
“Tulane is a good team, that doesn’t happen to them a lot, so I’m proud of our guys today, in all three phases. A lot of people around them want to focus on the next game, I’ve seen teams struggle against teams like that.”
~ Lane Kiffin on his teams performance against Tulane
Game recap
In just his second start in an Ole Miss uniform, Chambliss already looks like an SEC veteran behind center. The former Ferris State star picked up right where he left off in the Week 3 win over Arkansas, hitting Cayden Lee for a first down on the opening drive and later scrambling down the sideline for a 41-yard gain inside the Tulane 5-yard-line.
Two plays later, Chambliss found Dae’Quan Wright in the end zone — throwing a rocket of a pass to the Ole Miss tight end for the opening score of the game.

Chambliss went over 400 total yards again for a second-straight week, completing 17 of his 27 passes for 307 yards while leading the team in rushing with 112 yards on 14 carries. Kiffin praised the senior for his play after the win.
“I thought Trinidad played great. I thought the most important thing was not turning the ball over two weeks in a row. That’s how you win games”
~ Kiffin on Chambliss’ performance
As expected, Tulane starting quarterback Jake Retzlaff came out looking to run the football and did just that as the Green Wave picked up a quick first down. The Landshark defense stood tall on the next set of downs, forcing pass breakups while sophomore Kam Franklin brought consistent pressure to the backfield.
Chambliss and Kewan Lacy picked apart the Tulane defense on the next possession, using short gains to get the ball back into the redzone. However, penalties and a sack stalled the drive for the Rebels which led to Lucas Carneiro adding three more for a 10-0 Ole Miss lead with three minutes left in the first quarter.
Tulane came right back onto the field and picked up another quick first down, but again the Rebel defense swarmed to the ball. Safety Sage Ryan jarred the ball loose on 3rd-and-4, delivering a big hit to force an incompletion and put the ball back in the hands of the Ole Miss offense late in the first.
Deuce Alexander caught a pass from Chambliss for a 20-yard gain to end the opening quarter, and a few short runs pushed the ball past midfield before the Ole Miss drive stalled once again. Luckily for the Rebels, Carneiro had no problem putting a 54-yard kick through the uprights to make it a 13-0 lead.

The Green Wave would put together a six and a half minute drive in response thanks to countless scramble yards from Retzlaff, but the Ole Miss defense held strong and forced a field goal. The three points would be the only score of the first half for Tulane.
With six minutes to work with, Chambliss’ pass was tipped into the hands of De’Zhaun Stribling on the first play of the drive for a 53-yard gain into Tulane territory. The Rebels only need six plays to find the end zone as Lacy capped off the drive with his sixth touchdown of the season.

Tulane continued to pick up yards but could never find the big plays in the first half, being forced to punt once again before the second with Franklin and company causing plenty of chaos in the backfield for Ole Miss. Chambliss went deep on the first play of the next drive but Harrison Wallace III failed to bring in a pass that would have went for a score, but that didn’t matter. After a backward pass fumble was overturned, Lee hit the Green Wave defense with a double move and Chambliss laid it on his back shoulder for a 47-yard gain to the Tulane 20.

The drive stalled for the Rebels but Carneiro added more, going a perfect 3-for-3 on his field goals in the first half as Ole Miss took a 23-3 lead into the locker room.
Tulane opened the second half with a methodical four-minute drive that included tons of short gains all the way down to the Ole Miss 5-yard-line. But the Rebels did something they had struggled with all season to this point and forced a turnover on downs in plus territory.
The Green Wave defense forced a quick stop on the first Ole Miss drive of the half, but again, the Landshark defense forced a turnover on downs as Princewill Umanmielen began to be a regular in the Tulane backfield.
Alexander made an unbelievable diving grab and survived the ground for a 35-yard gain deep into Tulane territory right after the turnover on downs, and the Rebels used the ground game to put the ball on the goal line as time expired in the third quarter. After being stuffed a couple of times, Lacy punched the ball into the end zone for his second score of the day and a screen pass to Wallace III on the two-point conversion gave Ole Miss a 31-3 lead in the final 15 minutes.
After the game, Alexander talked about the transition from Austin Simmons to Chambliss at quarterback.
“It honestly hasn’t been much. I’ve done so much work with both of them, so I can adjust to the both of them really good.”

Backup Brenden Sullivan would check into the game for Tulane on the following possession. The Rebels held Ratzlaff to 56 yards passing and did not allow the BYU transfer to complete a pass until the final play of the first half. Sullivan hit Omari Hayes for a 22-yard gain on his first play but the Ole Miss defense put the ball back into the hands of Chambliss in a hurry.
Kiffin said after the game that he liked the way the Ole Miss defense responded after giving up 35 points against Arkansas.
“We have not had a defense performance like that last week since really the Georgia game, two years ago. They really answered the call today”
~ Kiffin on the Ole Miss defense against Tulane
If you blinked then you missed the next Ole Miss touchdown as it only took two plays and 32 seconds for Logan Diggs to extend the lead to 38-3 with a two-yard plunge across the goal line. That was after Chambliss found a wide open Wright for a gain of 53 on the first play of the drive.

Tulane went three-and-out for the first time after the Ole Miss score and again the Rebels scored quickly, only taking two minutes off the clock before adding more to the scoreboard. A roughing the passer call and a few tough runs for Lacy put Ole Miss on the Tulane side of the field, and Chambliss threw one up for grabs to Alexander, allowing the sophomore to come down with another miraculous catch for a 33-yard touchdown.

Sullivan led the charge down the field for the Green Wave’s first touchdown of the day to respond as the Rebels began to rotate backups into the game on both sides of the ball. A four-minute drive ended with Sullivan connecting with Anthony Brown-Stephens to reach the final score of 45-10.
Redshirt freshman AJ Maddox would get the nod at quarterback for Ole Miss for the remainder of the game and the Rebel secondary even came up with their first interception of the season when Sullivan launched one into traffic for Cedrick Beavers to come down with.
Along with another big day for Chambliss, Alexander led Ole Miss receivers with 4 grabs for 94 yards and a touchdown. Lacy added 68 yards on 18 carries, finding the end zone twice while Lee, Stribling and Wright all racked up 50 plus reception yards as well.
After the game, Chambliss talked about celebrating the win, but knows there are bigger task at hand.
“We’re gonna celebrate the win, but we know we have a big matchup against one of our rivals, LSU, so we’re gonna stay locked in.”
~ Chambliss on preparing for LSU
Jaden Yates led the Landshark defense with 11 total tackles while Franklin and Umanmielen combined for seven quarterback hurries. The Rebels did not record a sack despite getting countless pressure, a stat they have struggled to find this season.
“The product we put on tape last week, just thinking about it, you wanted to turn the page. We had a bad taste in our mouth all week. We’re a really good defense, I thought we did that to a ‘T’ today.”
~ Yates on the Landshark defense against Tulane
