‘A Dream Come True:’ Ole Miss Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss Embraces the Moment as Rebels Roll Over Tulane

OXFORD, Miss. — Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss stepped in again for the injured Austin Simmons and led the Ole Miss Rebels to a convincing 45-10 win over Tulane Saturday. It’s the second game to start for the transfer who only arrived on campus in July.
He threw for over 300 passing yards once again and also added over 100 rushing yards in the victory.
A Dream Come True to Start for Ole Miss Football
After last week’s win over the Razorbacks, Chambliss was asked about his nerves. He was asked the same question after the win over the Green Wave, and he was also asked if he has seen all the humorous social media posts where fans are posting the flag of the island of Trinidad.
A humble response followed, mentioning his faith and his team.
“Yes, it’s been surreal,” said Chambliss.
“I said last week, it’s a dream come true. Honestly, I’m grateful to God for putting me in that position to do what I do and help the team be successful. Twitter is hilarious. I love all the edits and AI stuff, it’s just really fun.“

The Tulane game was always going to be tough, as the Green Wave are one of the top teams in the Group of 5 and have aspirations to secure that guaranteed playoff spot for teams from the non-Power 5 conferences.
Chambliss knew it would be a challenge, but if his preparations were good, he felt confident despite it being just his second start.
“Last week, getting my feet wet and playing more minutes, and my role being bigger was great. This week, another tough team, Tulane, is a solid Group of 5 school. It was the same as last week, honestly, being locked in, being prepared, and knowing what to do when the opportunity comes.“

He also talked about building relationships with the receivers and in the quarterback room and doing what it took upon his arrival in Oxford in case his number was called.
“As a football player, on any team, as a competitor, on any team, whether any sport, you’ve always got to be ready whenever your number is called and be locked in throughout the whole week and throughout the whole season and offseason, it truly shows,” Chambliss said. “And I feel like our team just is always locked in and we’re just ready to go.”
Ole Miss Felt Like Home at Ferris State
Chambliss has loved his short time in Oxford and says he knew Ole Miss was home when he visited in the spring. Comparing it to his former school, Ferris State, explained he loves the relaxed atmosphere but appreciates the seriousness of achieving the program’s goals.
“Its’ been great,” replied Chambliss.
“On my visit here, I said it felt like home. It felt like Ferris State, with how the coaches talk to you, communicate with you, and joke with you as well. Coach Kiffin has been great, and despite all the fun stuff, it’s very serious as well.“

Trinidad was also asked what he has learned about himself over the last several weeks.
“I would just say that I could really do it,” he explained. Coming from a D2, comparing levels and whatnot, it was not that doubt in my mind, but to really prove that I can actually play here and play at a level like Ole Miss in the SEC really shows that, you know, I can do anything I put my mind to really. And like I said, I just got to thank God for that, really.”
His performances have raised a significant question for Lane Kiffin about who will start if Austin Simmons is healthy, with the meeting with LSU next on the schedule.
