Ole Miss Football Practice Report: Notes and Observations from Tuesday, August 19

OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss was back on the field in full pads at the Manning Center Tuesday, as the Rebels continue preparations for their August 30th game against Georgia Tech.
Today was the ninth open viewing practice for the media, and we’ve got these observations.
The offense looked solid today. Quarterback Austin Simmons hit Deuce Alexander on a 50+ yard touchdown strike, and Logan Diggs scored a rushing TD during quick scrimmages. Alexander showcased his route-running abilities and his effectiveness to get behind the secondary, while Diggs drove it in from the one-yard line.
The o-line participated in drills against the defensive line, focusing on hand placement, and footwork. Across the offensive line, Devin Harper, Patrick Kutas, and John Wayne Oliver all provided quality reps and were given the chance to run with Austin Simmons during some live drills.
Offensive linemen Delano Townsend and Terez Davis, as well as wide receiver Traylon Ray, were not seen at practice today and were likely getting treatment in the training room. Offensive linemen Jayden Williams and PJ Wilkins, along with tight end Dae’Quan Wright, were on the training bikes at practice and limited in their action today.
The wide receivers continue to shine. Here’s some footage from today.

Defensively, TJ Banks provided a quality day for the secondary. He performed well in one-on-one drills against wide receivers, and he made his presence known today by knocking down intended passes and bringing a lot of energy to the defensive unit.
The secondary focused on open field tackling and working through pre-snap motions for most of the day. Both the offensive and defensive position groups participated in fumble recovery drills today.
Redshirt freshman kicker Mike Baker notched another impressive day, showcasing a strong and accurate leg while focusing on kickoffs.

Four Rebels were named to Preseason Coaches All-SEC Teams: Suntarine Perkins (Second Team), Lucas Carneiro (Third Team), Princewill Umanmielen (Third Team), and Zxavian Harris (Third Team).
